Climate variability and extremes negatively impact on agricultural productivity production in arid semi-arid areas of Ethiopia. This study evaluated changes climate extreme indices the Borana Zone. Data daily rainfall, maximum minimum temperature from 1993 to 2022 were acquired National Meteorological Institute Ethiopia Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS). R-package for (RClimDex), Xlstat 2019, OriginPro, ArcGIS software used as analysis tools determine indices, trends, drought anomalies area. Spatial temporal variations temperature, vegetation zone analyzed using Google Earth Engine (GEE). The results revealed a decrease frequency consecutive wet days (CWD), 1-day precipitation amount (Rx1days), 5-day (Rx5days), very (R95p) Dire, Guchi, Wachele, Moyale districts zone. Annual monthly total (PRCPTOT) also decreased Dhaso, Dilo, Dubluk, Moyale, Tatlate over years. Warm spell duration index (WSDI), or annual (TNx), warm nights (TN90p), (TX90p) showed an increase However, standardized R10, R20, R95p, R99p indicated moderate across studied Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) higher severity spatial distribution Dilo Yabelo, whereas Temperature (TCI) detected Dubluk Yabelo stress due moisture thermal stress. Moisture-stress thermal-stress play role formation, whereas, is determined by availability, which dependent rainfall. We demonstrate that area experienced severe frequent years, multiple satellite-based are necessary better early warning assessment Further studies consider socioeconomic aspects farmers understand impacts smallholder farmers, devise location-specific adaptation strategies.

ABSTRACT Drought is a multifaceted hazard, influenced directly or indirectly by factors such as precipitation, evapo‐transpiration, soil moisture content and groundwater levels. dynamics fundamentally linked to hydrological processes, droughts impact water availability, overall balance. Given the global climate change consequent increasing frequency of extreme events, assessing vulnerability drought stress in underprivileged areas has become highly relevant. In this context, characterization crucial for understanding complex patterns its impacts on agriculture, ecosystems communities, thereby contributing food security, environmental sustainability disaster preparedness. The major goal study was evaluate onset, duration, extent agricultural using satellite‐based datasets. hyper‐temporal Système Pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT) VEGETATION (VGT) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data were used quantify related vegetation cover. spatial pattern estimated long‐term Condition (VCI) derived from SPOT‐VGT NDVI Notably, strong agreement found between estimations onset particularly during severe years 2002 2008. reveals that more over 95% total area encountered crop before second week July 1999, 2008, which are identified region. maps effectively captured occurrence events sixteen‐year span, highlighting distinct episodes underscoring significant prevalence across considerable area. high r 2 (0.61) value indicates level shared variability VCI yield crops, demonstrating their consistent alignment capturing health anomalies. comprehensive delineation Bundelkhand region revealed potential future preparedness efforts, enabling strategic planning facilitating implementation sustainable policy interventions.

Abstract Boyolali Regency is one of the regencies in Central Java that often hit by drought during dry season. In 2023, it was recorded 11 out 22 total sub-districts experienced and received clean water assistance from Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Regency. The El Nino phenomenon Indonesia exacerbated impact drought. study conducted aims to determine analyze results ability Landsat 9 imagery generating information into susceptibility parameters spatio-temporal pattern months (April - September) 2023 based on generated processing. used are NDVI, LST, NDWI, land use/land cover. Applying a weighted tiered quantitative approach applying scoring weighting each parameter. resulted accuracy between image interpretation field conditions using confusion matrix table. Each parameter produces different overall accuracy, but not much difference so still has sufficient level confidence. resulting map shows April, May, June dominated low-moderate susceptibility, while July, August, September high-very high susceptibility. August peak month with dominance susceptiblity covering 67741.05 Ha (63% area Regency). moderate very located southern, eastern, northern parts regency, low-low western part

Global warming is exacerbating the occurrence of droughts, which have a significant impact on society. Drought one main factors limiting development Santun River Irrigation Area in Xinjiang. Clarifying driving mechanism and spatial temporal evolution characteristics drought this irrigation area crucial for ensuring sustainable agriculture. In paper, temperature vegetation index (TVDI) used as indicator to analyze Xinjiang, well reveal influencing using Geoprobe model. The results show that mean value TVDI Xinjiang during 19 years was 0. 738, categorizing it medium drought. During period, there an increasing trend spring autumn decreasing summer. district had strong heterogeneity, overall, stronger northern part region than southern region. Over past years, light areas shifted severe classes at rate 114.9 km 2 ·10a −1 . combined effect elevation strongest explanatory power irrigated area, with q-value 0.869. study provide theoretical basis risk assessment water resource planning arid regions, reference monitoring studies similar regions.
