Abstract Potassium‐ion batteries (PIBs) have a significant cost advantage in resources, making their commercial application imminent. Presently, the cycling lifespan and energy density of PIBs lag behind those lithium‐ion batteries, highlighting crucial need for anode materials suitable potassium storage. This paper used high‐pressure heat treatment extraction methods to obtained toluene insoluble (TI) as carbon matrix, followed by nickel nitrogen co‐doping synthesized (NiNTI). NiNTI is characterized defect engineering such thermal condensation polymerization template doping, which destroys flattening material, provides more active sites, forms disordered structures, generates large number defects structural vacancies, improves electronic conductivity materials. In half‐cell configuration, operating at current 0.1 A g −1 , reversible specific capacity reaches 364 mAh with an initial coulombic efficiency 64.9%.
