Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as an effective solution to alleviate excessive carbon emissions in sustainable building projects. Although there are numerous applications of AI, is no state-of-the-art review how AI can reduce net-zero (NZCEs) for Therefore, this study aims conduct a systematic literature and science mapping NZCEs projects, thereby expediting the realization A mixed-method approach (i.e., mapping) consisting four comprehensive stages was used retrieve relevant published articles from Scopus database. total 154 were retrieved analyses qualitative discussions, including mainstream research topics, gaps, future directions. Six topics identified discussed. These include (1) life cycle assessment footprint, (2) practical technology, (3) multi-objective optimization, (4) energy management efficiency, (5) buildings, (6) decision support systems sustainability. In addition, suggests six gaps develops framework depicting The findings contribute advancing reducing projects help researchers practitioners realize its economic environmental benefits.

The construction industry accounts for approximately 40% of the global carbon emissions and is largest consumer materials energy. Given Paris Agreement target towards net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, significant changes are required in design, use buildings. This study applies a qualitative approach that combines systematic literature review (SLR) with in-depth semi-structured interviews experts to analyse existing neutrality frameworks decision support tools; expanding current knowledge by bringing fore challenges experienced implementing these frameworks. research effort reveals an inadequacy effective decision-making on decarbonisation strategies along project lifecycle. A novel framework breaks down activities points across entire lifecycle proposed bridge this gap literature. developed defines whole cost, energy use, exergetic as four critical underpinning variables considered making decisions. It further details key evaluation criteria facilitate at each stage provides decision-makers contextual guidance assessing impact their decisions planning, delivery, closure operations phases project. will assist academic researchers, building owners professionals keep track project's encourage best practices emission reduction sector.

As part of a broad strategy to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming, many countries are requiring all new buildings have energy use. This requires that on-site use not exceed generation renewable (taken here be solar energy), or equivalently, the building Energy Use Intensity (EUI, kWh/m2a) supply (electricity heat) per m2 floor area year. On this basis, we find achieving performance in an archetype 40-story square 16 different cities North America EUI 17-24 kWh/m2a using PV panels, 19-28 PVT collectors. Changing orientation non-square shape can improve maximum permitted by up 50% 60% case. Conversely, best-performing residential commercial EUIs 50-75 kWh/m2a. Only if heights limited 5-10 floors does available energy, thus EUI, Therefore, recommend policymakers require high-rise unless they prepared floors.

At present, the energy used for air conditioning in buildings urban areas accounts over 36% of total global consumption. Energy efficiency has become a critical factor planning cities worldwide. Courtyard hot are prime example approach traditional vernacular architecture to mitigate effects extreme weather. However, given challenge guaranteeing accurate modelling microclimates within these courtyards, their impact on demand been routinely overlooked by certification tools. This work examines three empirical case studies selected Seville city (Spain), where temperatures during summer months extreme. The display distinct geometric variations, and primary objective research is assess influence this cooling building indoors. To achieve this, validated methodology combining experimental numerical data was implemented evaluate performance with courtyards. Different simulations were conducted detect individual courtyard features. results show reduction 8–18% depending geometry courtyard. Analysis also carried out floor level orientation adjacent rooms, revealing differences 15% 22%, respectively. main conclusion that use courtyards as functional devices, paying particular attention geometry, key buildings.

As urbanization continues to accelerate globally, energy demand in cities is reaching unprecedented levels, contributing greenhouse gas emissions. In response, the concept of net-zero building (NZEB) becoming a sustainable solution for urban needs. NZEB aims achieve footprint by balancing it consumes with produces, primarily from renewable (RE) sources. This comprehensive literature review-based study explores role RE synergies context NZEBs, including discussions on definition and development RE-synergies achieving trends clusters climate change impacts their performance evaluation, policy regulatory frameworks, challenges possible solutions related NZEBs. It has been identified that while customizing definitions align regional supply important, same highly dependent architectural micro-climate features. The assessment effects practices should involve evaluating equilibrium, occupant comfort, interactions grid. There are still some technical, policy, socio-economic need more attention provide further enhancing development/performance NZEBs goal.
