Abstract We implemented a crossover study design exposing 15 participants to two indoor air quality conditions in the Well Living Lab. The first condition, Standard Control Condition, resembled ventilation and supply of typical home USA with manually operated stove hood. second Advanced Control, had an automated: (i) hood, (ii) portable cleaners (PAC), (iii) bathroom exhaust. PM 2.5 sensors were placed kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom. Once sensor detected level µg/m 3 or higher, intervention (stove PAC exhaust) that space was activated turned off when corresponding three consecutive readings below 6 . overall apartment reduced PM2.5 concentration by 40% compared Control. In difference between ~ 20%. This can be attributed using hood 66.5% cooking emission events for 323.6 h 88 used automated mode alongside 61.9 33.7 use room respectively.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a significant concern as people spend amount of time indoors. Biological contaminants can include bacteria, fungi (mold and mildew), viruses, pollen, animal dander, other airborne particles that have adverse health effects on occupants. This chapter aims to provide comprehensive overview the existing guidelines their recommendations for controlling mitigating biological in indoor air. Several organizations, such World Health Organization (WHO) US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), published address IAQ issues, including contaminants. These typically cover various aspects, identification assessment contaminants, prevention control measures, remediation strategies. Guidelines environments vary depending country organization providing recommendations. may serve guide professionals, researchers, policymakers involved field management. By following outlined guidelines, stakeholders effectively ensure well-being

This study investigates how low-income rural populations face health risks due to a lack of clean energy access, leading respiratory diseases and high healthcare costs. Strategies promoting adoption affordable are crucial addressing these issues. However, policies need evidence-based support. research explores the interplay among income levels, household choices, expenses. Conducted in Kisii County with 384 randomly sampled households using cross-sectional design, quantitatively analyzed data. Results indicate significant relationship between sources costs, moderated by income. Over two-thirds rely on polluting fuels like kerosene biomass, increasing infection spending. These findings advocate for funding cleaner technologies mitigate expenses vulnerable communities.

We conducted a comprehensive exposure assessment involving 15 participants, each residing in one-bedroom apartment for 4 weeks. Throughout this period, they engaged various in-the-apartment activities such as sleeping, cooking, cleaning, and following schedules, addition to going work participating other activities. Using crossover study design, we examined the effects of two distinct conditions: Standard Control Condition (typical residential ventilation with manual stove hood) Advanced an automated hood, portable air cleaners, bathroom exhaust system). Our evaluation total encompassed both inside outside apartment. For within apartment, combined location data obtained through Real-Time Location System (RTLS) measurements PM2.5 concentrations from four IoT environmental sensors positioned throughout The results demonstrated that led approximately 40% reduction overall concentration compared Condition. However, there was no notable difference participants’ between these conditions. This outcome highlights significant influence occupant movement on levels underscores importance including indoor alongside detailed monitoring. median all participants around 24 µg. To track outdoor activities, utilized Global Positioning (GPS) phones carried by coupled personal aerosol monitors. categorized GPS information into commuting, working at workplace, individual-specific posed challenges general classification. Exposure ~10 µg dominated workplace exposure. findings indicate cooking emissions had most impact during period.
