The objective of this study was to analyze the climate change experienced in Spain between 1971 and 2022 estimate future (2050). main objectives were as follows: (1) temporal evolution temperature from present, quantify warming process case evaluate increase extreme heat events (heatwaves); (2) precipitation regime determine whether there is a statistically representative trend towards drier an precipitation; (3) investigate interaction annual continuous temperature; (4) scenario for mainland Balearic Islands 2050, analyzing trends land aridity predicting possible Mediterranean warm steppe climate, according Köppen classification. aim test hypothesis that resulting global implies tendency progressive drought. Given variability addition ordinary least squares methodology, techniques mainly used Mann–Kendall Kendall–Theil–Sen (KTS) regression. confirmed very high statistical significance relationship (RR) maximum (TX). If recent years (1971–2022) continues, it foreseeable that, by will be reduction 14% 23% with respect reference period (understood average 2000). Spain’s likely classification system (from “C” “B”).

Thermal comfort in educational environments affects not only students’ well-being but also their concentration and academic performance. In the context of climate change, university classrooms Mediterranean climates face particular challenges due to higher more variable temperatures. This study evaluates thermal southern Portugal, comparing natural ventilation (NV) air-conditioning (AC) modes. Through environmental measurements student surveys, perceptions, preferences factors such as position within classroom were analysed. The results reveal that NV offer sustainable benefits, effectiveness decreases when outside temperatures exceed 28 °C, increasing discomfort. contrast, AC maintain stable comfortable conditions, although they have gradients affect specific zones, areas near windows or air vents. highlights need for hybrid strategies prioritise moderate use a support extreme conditions. Furthermore, it underlines importance appropriate architectural design adaptive models climates, balancing energy efficiency.

Climate change and the urgency of decarbonizing built environment drive technological innovation in delivering thermal comfort to occupants. Studies have shown that discomfort can lead a decline students’ cognitive function, motivation, absenteeism, decrease instructors’ work performance. This article reviews significant changes, developments, trends research for educational facilities classrooms. study summarizes regarding importance environmental education facilities, different climatic regions, various parameters play vital role determining comfort. The investigation current literature showed researchers focused on issues, adopting diverse models indices investigate Indeed, even if conditions comply with standards, several cases, prolonged stay indoors affects health productivity students. However, it is important focus preferences climates, stages create healthy human-centered buildings. It also clear mainly cold regions Europe, while, by level, secondary-stage classrooms are least investigated; thus, further needed. Therefore, an integrated approach considers both positive negative effects indoor exposure needed, including individual needs occupants researched such as Asia Africa.

The COVID‐19 pandemic has prompted renewed interest in indoor air quality (IAQ). Poor ventilation habits, energy obsolescence, and the lack of cooling equipment schools, combined with increasing temperatures due to climate change, are leading situations thermal stress classrooms. Changes school operation, following COVID pandemic, have made it necessary establish an accurate understanding current situation. This research work presents assessment winter summer IAQ comfort (TC) for a sample 7 archetypal secondary schools 5 Mediterranean variants southern Spain postpandemic was assessed through CO 2 , PM2.5, PM10, CH O, while static adaptive models were used case TC. Surveys also assess both these. main novelty is use IAPI (indoor pollution index) IDI dissatisfaction objective global dimensionless indices optimize joint variables. results, especially obtained seasons all variants. Global between 6.2 8.1, index 10 considered unacceptable, time percentages exceeding established limits more variable winter, ranging from 7% 31.9%, than summer, 14.3% 20.9%. TC results varied, percentage hours outside bands reached 40%–47% excess heat hottest regions. discomfort reported by 58.3% users.
