With the requirement of energy decarbonization, natural gas (NG) and hydrogen (H2) become increasingly important in world’s landscape. The liquefaction NG H2 significantly increases density, facilitating large-scale storage long-distance transport. However, conventional processes mainly adopt electricity-driven compression refrigeration technology, which generally results high consumption carbon dioxide emissions. Absorption technology (ART) presents a promising avenue for enhancing efficiency reducing emissions both processes. Its ability to utilize industrial waste heat renewable thermal sources over large temperature range makes it particularly attractive sustainable practices. This review comprehensively analyzes progress ART terms working pairs, cycle configurations, mass transfer main components. To operate under different driven temperatures, pairs exhibit diversified development trend. environment-friendly high-efficiency ionic liquids deep eutectic solvents are new absorbents, potential. Through coupling within or addition sub-components, configurations with higher wider operational conditions greatly focused.
