The fatty esters in cooking oil may not be inert organics. Their potential involvement hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of food waste was investigated this study. Cooked cabbage (vegetable) and rice (staple food) were selected as the feedstock their HTC presence (vegetable oil) lard (animal fat) conducted at 260 °C for 10 h. results indicated that increased hydrochar yield (i.e., 71.5% increase with lard) originating from reactions between oil-derived acids food-derived alcohols, amines, etc. This significantly both carbon hydrogen contents simultaneously reduced oxygen content hydrochar. additional aliphatics formed on remarkably thermal stability hydrochar, but volatility led to improved combustion performance through lowering activation energy combustion.
