Due
to

Introduction
This
study
investigates
the
effects
of
urban
polycentricity
and
city
size
on
total
factor
productivity
(TFP)
in
Chinese
cities.
Methods
Using
high-resolution
population
distribution
data
from
Landscan
applying
instrumental
variable
(IV)
estimation
to
address
endogeneity
concerns,
we
construct
a
novel
measure
polycentricity.
Results
Our
findings
show
that
while
expanding
enhances
TFP
through
increased
economies
scale,
greater
negatively
affects
by
weakening
agglomeration
innovation
spillovers.
Discussion
The
analysis
suggests
reduces
concentration
economic
activities,
which
hampers
knowledge
diffusion
innovation,
leading
lower
productivity.
Additionally,

optimal

growth
