Despite the successful breeding of hybrid japonica rice by new strategy (the female parent with a restorer line containing an appropriate proportion indica genes) in China, it remains unclear whether these cultivars exhibit similar yield performance traditional high-yield Yangtze River region. Therefore, two field experiments were conducted Fenghua City and Yuyao City, during growing seasons 2019 2020. Six one control indica–japonica cultivar (Yongyou1540 [YY1540]) chosen as experimental materials each year, seedling quality, grain yield, components evaluated. The results showed that YY1540 was 13.9 t ha−1 14.5 2020, respectively, which highest among all both years. However, CHY83 CHY112 2020 also achieved high 13.7 14.0 ha−1, not significantly difference from YY1540. typically exhibited more spikelets per panicle, m2, higher harvest index than those lower yield. Increasing total growth duration had limited impact on rice. post-heading daily positively correlated cultivars. Moreover, significant quadratic relationships observed between plant height at maturity dry weight optimal for achieving approximately 130 cm 300 mg plant−1, respectively. This study provides useful information
