Abstract The surface effect of certain material such as silicon wafer, quartz or mica on the formation CO 2 hydrate is studied by in situ visual observation gas reacting with a water droplet restricted space. results obtained show that growing process space can be divided into two consecutive stages, covering at gas–liquid interface and spreading solid surface. It indicated spreads continuous advancing frontier, suggesting for might delivered through both lateral vertical transmitting path, driving force migration play dominant role. Qualitative quantitative analyses properties significant role process, probably affecting interfacial interaction hydrates moving near surfaces.
