The common use of cost minimisation to support energy system design decisions hides from view many economically comparable options that stakeholders may prefer. Modelling generate alternatives (MGA) is increasingly popular as a way go beyond least-cost designs, providing with diverse portfolios appraise. However, generating all the feasible designs not computationally viable; modellers must choose what features diversity around, despite knowing which trade-offs matter most in practice. Therefore, MGA alone cannot ensure generation match stakeholder needs. To address this shortcoming, we propose human-in-the-loop (HITL) approach automatically integrates preferences into MGA. We elicit by letting interact tentative space. Hence, decode those feed them back algorithm and perform guided search. This search produces human-trained space more mirror elicited preferences. A synthetic experiment for Portuguese shows HITL-MGA facilitate consensus formation, promising accelerate technically socially transition decisions.
