Purpose This study explores how sustainable reverse logistics (SRL) influences environmental performance (EP) in the manufacturing sector, with a focus on mediating role of resource commitment (SRC) and moderating effect organizational learning capability (OLC). Design/methodology/approach Data was collected from firms Shaanxi Province, China. The developed model tested all hypothesized relationships using structural equation modeling (SEM) partial least squares (PLS). Findings results reveal that SRL is positively linked to EP, SRC significantly mediates relationship between them. Furthermore, OLC moderates enhancing overall effect. Research limitations/implications findings offer valuable practical insights into adopting practices, integrating circular economy principles leveraging capabilities can enhance sustainability firms. However, reliance data single country limits generalizability findings, highlighting need for future research across diverse geographical contexts explore economy-driven strategies vary different industrial regulatory environments. Originality/value adds existing literature by offering novel framework. It empirically examines OLC, which remain underexplored.

Industry 5.0 (I5.0) builds upon 4.0 by emphasizing the role of workers in production processes and prioritizing socio-economic-environmental sustainability. It has been shown that I5.0 can enhance sustainability within supply chains (SCs). However, companies emerging economies, especially small medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs), which are crucial to developing face challenges implementing these concepts. These SMEs early stages adopting foster their SCs require urgent identification key enablers. Unfortunately, current literature lacks research on this topic specifically context economies. To bridge gap, study identifies enablers promote diffusion SCs, using China’s SME sector as a case study. The integrated framework for applying multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques aims assist decision-makers evaluating different options making optimal choices systematic structured manner when faced with complex situations. employs fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) identify 15 categorize them into three clusters.
