Purpose This study examines the accuracy of a homogenization scheme for linear buckling analysis structures assembled from beam-based lattice plates. Regardless in-plane acting loads, behavior is characterized by abrupt out-of-plane deformation. Apparently, if plates are modeled as homogenized ones, effective material properties should be considered. However, prevalently implemented in literature, assigned to analysis, and thus, results erroneous. Design/methodology/approach The performed two finite element models, i.e. high- low-fidelity models. In former one, each strut an Euler–Bernoulli beam, all geometrical features explicitly simulated. On other hand, one involves having determined counterparts using energy-based method. Findings confirmed comparison obtained Six topological configurations unit cells considered, first five modes inspected. examinations, model offers acceptable level accuracy, relative difference between models lower than 5%. Furthermore, it recommended use rather ones ensure precise simulation.
