Environmental pollution is a growing threat to natural ecosystems and one of the world’s most pressing concerns. The increasing worldwide use pharmaceuticals has elevated their status as significant emerging contaminants. Pharmaceuticals enter aquatic environments through multiple pathways related anthropogenic activity. Their high consumption, insufficient waste treatment, incapacity organisms completely metabolize them contribute accumulation in environments, posing all life forms. Various analytical methods have been used quantify pharmaceuticals. Biotechnology advancements based on next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, like eDNA metabarcoding, enabled development new for assessing monitoring ecotoxicological effects metabarcoding valuable biomonitoring tool pharmaceutical because it (a) provides an efficient method assess predict status, (b) identifies sources, (c) tracks changes levels over time, (d) assesses ecological impact pollution, (e) helps prioritize cleanup mitigation efforts, (f) offers insights into diversity composition microbial other bioindicator communities. This review highlights issue while emphasizing importance using modern NGS-based actions its environmental more consistently effectively.

Hospitals played vital role in the maintenance and sustenance of human health. However, hospital activities generate high volume toxic solid liquid containing diverse inorganic, organic microbial wastes released untreated into ecosystem. The management wastewater particular has been a major source concern due to presence unregulated emerging micro-pollutants at concentrations range ng/L μg/L. These pollutants low concentration exert different potential health effects on aquatic species. In this review, formation, composition, properties ecotoxicology selected (Norfloxacin, Ofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Clofibric acid Carbamazepine) were reviewed. review also elucidates detection quantification micropollutants by Spectrophotometry techniques, Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography-Mass spectrometry, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. Furthermore, treatment through physical, biological, chemical, adsorption advanced oxidation processes such as photocatalysis photo-Fenton including their operational mechanism provided. chemistry degradation several intermediates It was found that conventional methods are not designed for effective removal these because they exist mixtures very exerts toxicological effects. reveals no single technology can effectively detoxify wastewater, instead combination (phototcatalytic/adsorption or photo-fenton/adsorption) most appropriate treatment. Finally, regular monitoring determination physicochemical ecotoxicological parameters recommended.

Pharmaceuticals are essential for human health, but they become an environmental concern when entering the environment which occurs residues excreted after consumption or unused pharmaceuticals discarded improperly. Although there no developed detection methods all that reach ecosystem, certain groups have been proven to cause adverse effects on ecosystems, including increased mortality in aquatic species and changes physiology, behavior, reproduction. Particular attention is devoted these of their impact. In this review, authors suggest measures reduction environment, with a strong emphasis prevention. Various policy interventions recommended across lifecycle source-directed, user-orientated, waste management measures, prevent creation household pharmaceutical ensure environmentally friendly ways disposal. Preventive include rational consumption, prescribing greener drugs, designing benign easily biodegradable, improved disease prevention, personalized medicine, enhanced dimensioning pack sizes, marketplaces redistribution pharmaceuticals. The next step unavoidable so proper collection disposal utmost importance. Finally, educating health professionals public partnership between healthcare scientists vital significance stages pharmaceuticals’ lifecycle. Minimalization level will benefit life.

These substances can interfere with physiological and biochemical processes aquatic species over entire life cycle. Oxaliplatin (OXA) is widely used chemotherapeutic agent treat colon or rectal cancer. This study was aimed evaluate developmental toxicity OXA exposure. To this end, zebrafish embryos were incubated 0.001, 0.1, 0.5 mg/L OXA. At different timepoints mortality rate, hatching abnormalities, histological analysis, oxidative stress mRNA expression gene evaluated. Our results showed that exposure induce increased abnormalities reducing rate. Histological analysis demonstrated induced liver, intestine, muscle heart injury. Superoxide dismutase catalase activities significantly after demonstrating its effects. The levels apoptosis-related genes (caspase-3, bax bcl-2) upregulated by In conclusion, we highlighted led dose-related toxicity, apoptosis.
