Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a strategic agricultural crop that plays significant role in maintaining national food security and sustainable economic development. Increasing technical performance considering lowering costs, energy, environmental consequences are aims for wheat cultivation. For drylands, which cover approximately 41% of the world’s land surface, water stress has considerable negative impact on output. The current study aimed to assess aspects chemical fertilizer combination with compost dryland irrigated winter production systems through life cycle assessment (LCA). cradle-to-farm gate was considered as system boundary based one tone yield four strategies: D-C (dryland compost), D without I-C (irrigated I compost). Based results, highest lowest amounts were related strategies 12.2 6.7 ton ha−1, respectively. LCA result showed strategy comparison other had human health (49%), resources (59%), ecosystem quality (44%), climate change (43%). However, resulted adverse effect 6% health, 1% resources, 10% quality, 11% change. Utilizing areas could ensure higher crops addition alleviating indicators.

Soil ecosystems are crucial for providing vital ecosystem services (ES), and increasingly pressured by the intensification expansion of human activities, leading to potentially harmful consequences their related ES provision. Alien species form one of the main threats to global biodiversity. Although Life Cycle Assessment attempts holistically assess environmental impacts products and services across value chains, ecological introduction alien are so far not assessed in Impact Assessment. Here, we developed country-to-country-specific characterization factors, expressed as time-integrated potentially disappeared fraction (PDF; regional global) native terrestrial due introductions per unit goods transported [kg] between two countries. The factors were generated by analyzing data on first records species, distributions, their threat status, well bilateral trade partnerships from 1870–2019. resulting vary over several orders magnitude, indicating that impact greatly varies transportation route trading partner. We showcase applicability relevance for transporting 1 metric ton freight France China, South Africa, Madagascar. results suggest can be more damaging biodiversity climate change during international transport commodities.

To guide both environmental and public health policy, it is important to assess the degree of antibiotic resistance selection pressure under measured concentrations (MECs), compare efficacy different mitigation strategies minimize spread resistance. this end, enrichment potential due emissions into environment must be analysed from a life cycle perspective, for wide range antibiotics, considering variations in underlying fitness costs between mutations genes. The aim study consistently derive cost-dependent minimum selective (MSCs) readily available bacterial inhibition data build MSC-based species sensitivity distributions (SSDs). These are then used determine antibiotic-specific predicted promote 5% exposed (RSC5). Using previously developed competition model, we provide estimated MSC10 endpoints 2,984 combinations; largest set modelled MSCs date. Based on constructed SSDs, RSC5 128 antibiotics with four orders magnitude difference their 'selective potential' environment. By comparing our MECs, highlight specific compartments (e.g. hospital wastewater effluents, lakes rivers), as well several ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, enrofloxacin, tetracycline), scrutinized role dissemination. In addition enabling comparative risk screening multiple SSD-derived point departure calculating new cycle-based characterization factors strategies, thereby contributing towards 'One-Health' approach tackling global crisis.

Bridging applied ecology and ecotoxicology is key to protect ecosystems. These disciplines show a mismatch, especially when evaluating pressures. Contrasting ecology, ecotoxicological impacts are often characterized for whole species assemblages based on Species Sensitivity Distributions (SSDs). ABSTRACT All river networks are virtually prone to drying, which is dramatically increasing in space and time. This threatens the functions ecosystem services (ES) rivers provide societies. Here, we introduce a new conceptual model of provision ES drying (DRN), situating as pivotal element every network. Based on meta‐ecosystem perspective, contend that determined DRN by exchange abiotic biotic flows between terrestrial aquatic ecosystems catchment. Specifically, highlight three main components involved: intensity flows, biodiversity patterns, functioning rates. How they vary time due changes hydrological connectivity catchment‐DRN determines pattern along DRN. Although events cause great diversity naturally provided DRN, must perceive their anthropogenic increase major socio‐ecological risk factor.
