Abstract In recent decades, biodiversity loss has greatly impacted planetary and human health. ABSTRACT In modern urbanized societies, the incidence of major immune-mediated diseases is several times higher than before World War II. A potential explanation that these are triggered by limited possibilities to be exposed rich environmental microbiota. This requires urban environment hosts less and poorer microbiota natural environment. The current study was designed test assumption man-made environments host microbiota, compared habitats. We selected two types dry environments, rocks playground rubber mats, both which were used daily extensively children. quantitative PCR next-generation sequencing, bacterial abundance richness on mats. Altogether, 67 amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) belonging mostly Actinobacteria Proteobacteria indicative rock while three ASVs Interestingly, bacteria formed more complex networks mats rocks. Based literature, this indicates studied artificial challenging stressful for communities results support hypothesis poor microbial communities, in accordance with biodiversity diseases. IMPORTANCE provides new evidence play provide a microbes, as Through this, underlines need enhance diversity areas, especially outdoor have crucial role providing essential exposure development children’s immune system. research can potentially offer guidance planning public health strategies planetary health.

Ever-growing cities constantly increase the distance between suburban regions and semi-urban areas on perimeter of cities, where traditional crop production can take place with relatively fewer restrictions. The implementation ultra-short supply chains implies moving means as close to inhabitants possible. Two main directions be identified effective for increasing food resilience densely populated areas; these are soil-based urban agriculture high-tech plant factories. Both approaches offer a certain level integration built environment; however, alternatives differ in terms their contributions environment modulation, agrobiodiversity, social well-being, resilience. Vertical farms produce high amount nutritionally rich crops direct use, although involvement is minimal; therefore, they considered service function without advantages. Open-field contribute well-being locals, but yields rather supplementary. combination both strengthen common advantages less likely; automated technologies require low number highly qualified personnel; community factories cannot possible contributors future.
