A novel heterojunction composite of CoOx/Bi4Ti3O12 was synthesized through a combination molten salt and photodeposition methods. The optimal sample exhibited superior performance in the piezocatalytic degradation methyl orange (MO) dye with rate 1.09 h−1, which 2.4 times higher than that pristine Bi4Ti3O12. Various characterizations were conducted to reveal fundamental nature accountable for outstanding CoOx/Bi4Ti3O12. investigation band structure indicated formed type-I p-n structure, CoOx acting as hole trapper effectively separate transfer piezogenerated carriers. Significantly, MO best further increased 2.96 h−1 under combined ultrasonic vibration simulated sunlight. synergy between piezocatalysis photocatalysis can be ascribed following factors. photoexcitation process ensures sufficient generation charge carriers CoOx/Bi4Ti3O12, while piezoelectric field within Bi4Ti3O12 promotes separation electron-hole pairs bulk phase. Furthermore, significantly facilitates surface This involvement free electrons holes reaction leads remarkable enhancement catalytic degradation. work contributes understanding coupling mechanism effect photocatalysis, also provides promising strategy development efficient catalysts wastewater treatment.
