Long-term exposure to particulate matter, especially submicron matter (PM1), poses significant health risks by inducing oxidative stress and inflammation. This paper reports an optimally designed virtual impactor (VI) integrated with a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor for the classification detection of PM1 particles. Computational fluid dynamics simulations were employed optimize included angles outlet size VI’s flow channels, minimizing eddy formation reducing airflow impact on sidewalls thereby enhancing durability VI. The VI was fabricated using 3D printing, its optimization effectiveness validated assessing particle wall loss. performance system examined classifying SiO2 particles ranging from 0.2 2 µm detecting QCM sensor. Results showed that after classification, majority in major channels PM1. frequency shift linear correlation mass deposited surface. Moreover, system’s found be comparable commercial instruments.

Abstract Respiratory diseases (RD) pose a significant public health challenge, particularly in vulnerable populations. However, the impact of ambient temperature on RD hospitalizations rural areas Northwest China remains understudied. this study aimed to investigate relationship between and hospitalization. In research, meteorological information hospitalization data Wuwei's area from 2011 2015 were integrated. Time series analysis was performed using distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM). Furthermore, we conducted stratifed based gender age. Relative risk 95% confidence intervals used assess admission risk. The results show that damage caused by low gradually increased with increasing days, effect reached maximum at -20°C 7 days after (RR = 1.313, CI: 1.257–1.371). For temperature, cumulative greater 0–7 3.162, 2.918–3.427) than other days. cold effect, RR extreme moderate day lags 1.822 (95% 1.732–1.917) 1.217 1.200-1.233), respectively. Subgroup demonstrated heightened vulnerability temperatures among males elderly individuals (≥ 65 years) compared females younger adults (< years). Conversely, higher had protective across all demographic groups. Extreme significantly admissions. male older people being more susceptible temperatures. These findings can inform development policies safeguarding populations mitigating burden RD.

Ultrafine particles (UFPs) are airborne with a diameter of less than 100 nm. They emitted from various sources, such as traffic, combustion, and industrial processes, can have adverse effects on human health. Long-term mean ambient average particle size (APS) in the UFP range varies over space within cities, locations near sources having typically smaller APS. Spatial models for lung deposited surface area (LDSA) urban areas limited currently there is no model APS any European city. We collected number concentration (PNC), LDSA, data one-year monitoring campaign May 2021 to 2022 across 27 estimated annual Copenhagen, Denmark, obtained additionally PNC 6 state-owned continuous monitors. developed 94 predictor variables, machine learning (random forest bagged tree) were PNC, The were, respectively, 5523 pt/cm3, 12.0 μm2/cm3, 46.1 final R2 values by random (RF) 0.93 0.88 0.85 10-fold, repeated 10-times cross-validation 0.65, 0.67, 0.60 APS, respectively. root square error RF 296 0.48 1.60 nm Traffic-related length major roads buffers 100–150 m distance streets speed limits amongst highly-ranked predictors our models. Background: Ultrafine particles (UFP; <0.1 µm in diameter) are not regulated or commonly monitored, but may be harmful to human health, particularly for children. In this study, we aimed examine the association between short-term exposure UFP and asthma hospital admissions children. Methods: Daily levels of (2002-2018) were monitored at an urban background station Copenhagen, Denmark. Asthma admissions, demographic, socio-economic information children (0-18 years) obtained from registries. We applied a case-crossover study design estimate up six preceding days all children, stratified by age, sex, family income, mother’s education, prior asthma, respiratory infection.Findings: observed 15,903 total. An interquartile range increase was significantly associated with strongest two-day means (risk ratio: 1·17 [95% confidence interval: 1·09, 1·25]). These associations remained unchanged when adjusting particulate matter <2·5 diameter (PM2·5) nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which also detected significant positive associations. Associations school-aged children.Interpretation: large low setting, find that can trigger independently PM2·5 NO2. This adds strong evidence calling regulation protect children’s health areas.Funding: funded Children’s Lung Foundation (Børnelungefonden) Novo Nordisk Challenge Programme [NNF 17OC0027812].Declaration Interest: All authors declare they have no conflicts interest.Ethical Approval: “All Danish register data used anonymized de-identified ensure privacy confidentiality individuals.
