Microplastics (MPs) have been identified in diverse settings, including drinking water, freshwater, food, air, and marine environments. This study employed stereomicroscopic µ-Raman techniques to analyze water samples from ten widely consumed bottled brands, aiming detect characterize MPs. Additionally, the oral consumption of MPs per capita was estimated. The average abundance ranged 9 ± 1.00 MPs/L 3 1.73 across all brands. Various shapes were observed, fibers, fragments, films, pellets, with fibers being predominant (58.928%). categorized by color into five groups (red, blue, black, yellow, transparent), red comprising approximately 35.714% total count. All less than 500 µm size. analysis validated presence eight different polymer types samples, namely Polypropylene (PP) (37.5%), Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) (3.571%), polystyrene (PS) (33.928%), polycarbonate (PC) polybutylene1 (PB1) (14.2%), Isotactic polypropylene (iPP) (7.142), Nylone 6-α polymorph (αNY6) (5.357%), polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) (1.785%). estimated daily intake person determined be 0.42 MPs, translating an annual 153.3 person. origin likely attributed both raw sources packaging materials, underscoring need for further investigation. Chemically, microplastics (MPs) are synthetic materials composed of plastic monomers and additives vary in size from 0.1 to 5000 μm. Due their chemical stability the widespread use plastics for various purposes, MP contamination environment has increased dramatically, leading daily consumer products as well. Although previous studies have reported environmental impacts MPs, only a few highlighted occurrence MPs food possible effects on human health. Recent investigations identified particles drinking water other beverages, seafood, plant products, salt, sugar, honey, raising an alarm over safety quality these items. Ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact such goods common routes through which may enter body can several deleterious health including oxidative stress, inflammation, immunotoxicity, risk neoplasia, cellular metabolism impairment, neurotoxicity, gut microbiome dysbiosis, disruption reproductive system among others. A collective approach employing source control, recycling, biodegradable plastics, strengthening legislation, bioremediation could be promising sustainable solution control pollution. The key challenge appears standarize detection methods along with reducing well environment. Therefore, this review focuses current analysis, potential impacts, strategies mitigate It also adds novel findings, knowledge gaps, recommendations that guide future research field.

Microplastics are increasingly reported, not only in the environment but also a wide range of food commodities. While studies on microplastics abound, current state science is limited its application to regulatory risk assessment by continued lack standardized definitions, reference materials, sample collection and preparation procedures, fit-for purpose analytical methods for real-world environmentally relevant plastic mixtures, appropriate quality controls. This particularly case nanoplastics. These methodological challenges hinder robust, quantitative exposure assessments microplastic nanoplastic mixtures from consumption. Furthermore, toxicological whether nanoplastics adversely impact human health impeded methodology challenges. Food safety agencies must consider both contaminants emerging concern ascertain potential harm. We conducted a nationally-representative survey of United States (U.S.) adults (n=1,960) in 2021 to gather insights on the knowledge, perceptions, and concerns about threats ocean, with specific focus plastics microplastic pollution. Responses from U.S. adult group were compared highly-engaged, Ocean Conservancy members who are very attuned ocean issues (n=882). is U.S.-based nonprofit environmental advocacy working protect today’s greatest challenges. Plastic pollution was primary concern identified by both members, surpassing eight other threat categories including oil spills, chemical nutrient pollution, climate change. Broad reported for study groups impacts marine wildlife, human health coastal community impact being less prominent. About half 90% had heard microplastics. The increased levels of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) found in human brain tissue are alarming, particularly patients with dementia. Although total avoidance MNP exposure will likely remain an unattainable endpoint light their ubiquity the environment, new studies indicate feasible pathways by which dietary intake may be decreased or clearances improved. This commentary reviews evidence on to MNPs, penetration, potential health effects, neurotoxicity. Microplastics (MPs) pervade the environment, infiltrating food sources and human bodies, raising concerns about their impact on health. This review is focused three key questions: (i) What type of polymers are humans most exposed to? (ii) prevalent shapes MPs found in samples? (iii) Are data influenced by detection limit size particles? Through a systematic literature analysis, we have explored polymer types samples. The provide evidence that polyester commonly detected humans, followed polyamide, polyurethane, polypropylene, polyacrylate. Fibres emerge as predominant shape across all categories, suggesting potential environmental contamination from textile industry. Studies drinking water reported small particles, contrast to larger research, particular seafood. Discrepancies methodologies different reports were identified, which could some discussed trends. study highlights need for more comprehensive research interactions between biological systems effects toxicity, together with standardised analytical accurately assess levels exposure. Understanding these dynamics essential formulating effective strategies mitigate health implications MP pollution.

Here we review differences between manufacture resulting physicochemical properties commerce PSMs most commonly toxicity studies.

Pollution by emerging contaminants, such as micro-nanoplastics, alongside the exponential prevalence of diet-related diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes, poses significant concerns for modern societies. There is an urgent need to explore synergistic effects these two factors, unhealthy lifestyles may increase disease susceptibility amplify harmful impacts pollutants on human health. Mitochondria play a crucial role in both micro-nanoplastic-induced toxicity pathogenesis diabetes. This makes them potential target assessing combined micro-nanoplastic exposure poor dietary habits. To address this issue, we conducted review latest investigations evaluating micro-nanoplastics presence diets. Although evidence limited, reviewed studies indicate that particles exacerbate common metabolic disturbances associated with diabetes: elevated fasting blood glucose insulin levels, intolerance, resistance. Some have identified mitochondrial dysfunction underlying mechanism driving effects. Thus, mitochondria appear be key link between diseases. Assessing function organelle allow more fitted risk assessment micro-nanoplastics.
