ABSTRACT Growing global concern surrounds microplastics, found in various environments. However, data on microplastics contamination salted shrimp and associated health risks remain scarce. We analyzed whether shrimps sold markets a main city Amazonas state (Brazil), are contaminated with microplastics. examined 150 specimens of Macrobrachium amazonicum 396 potential 129 individuals (86%). The number particles per gram body mass was highest the gastrointestinal tract, 60% them ranging size from 1,000 to 5,000 µm, predominantly dark blue fibers (80%). likely originates environment salt used during processing region where captured. Our findings point risk many consumers Amazon region.
