This study conducts a complex analysis to evaluate urban air pollution and climate dynamics impacts on COVID-19 viral infection incidence mortality in Bucharest metropolitan city Romania. It is motivated by the pandemic occurrence environmental/health challenges caused increasing urbanization Bucharest. paper presents temporal patterns characteristics of main pollutants PM2.5 PM10 (inhalable particulate matter with aerodynamic size less than or equal 2.5 µm 10 µm, respectively) as well nitrogen dioxide-NO2, ozone-O3, sulfur dioxide-SO2, carbon monoxide-CO during period March 2020–March 2022 through integration time-series surface observation satellite data. Through employing descriptive statistics regression models for multiple datasets climate-related parameters such temperature at 2m height (T), relative humidity (RH), wind speed intensity (w), direction, Planetary Boundary Layer height-PBL, solar irradiance-SI, this found that seasonal variation aerosol loading (PM2.5 PM10) over investigated have direct impact spreading. Nevertheless, additional environmental epidemiological investigations are required test causality seasonality its severity.

The port of Cartagena, south-east Spain, is noted for its intense activity. This paper presents the influence COVID-19 pandemic on recorded levels six pollutants. Fifteen years measurements were used, with two objectives. first was to investigate how these pollutants evolved, together their usual cycles. second objective ascertain whether had an impact concentrations recorded. results showed that nitrogen oxide remained steady in half measurement period and decreased half. SO2 irregularly, whereas O3 PM10 presented concentrations. annual cycle observed oxides O3. Only evidenced no weekly cycle. Finally, analysis pre- post-pandemic revealed a sharp decrease oxides, not seen have any other In addition, NO2 emerged as best indicator human activity—represented by car maritime traffic—due response relaxation measures. Lamb weather types calculated. unclassified type most frequent. However, greatest concentration changes anticyclonic eastern flow types.

The lockdown adopted in Spain to combat the global pandemic due coronavirus disease (COVID-19) led a significant reduction emission of aerosols produced by road traffic and industry. This study aims detect changes column COVID-19 lockdown. High-quality AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) measurements AOD (aerosol optical depth), AE (Ångström exponent) SSA (single scattering albedo) over period 2012–2020 are used for this purpose. Ten AERONET stations with available during post-lockdown periods long previous data record selected. well distributed throughout Spain, covering different areas population densities. A comprehensive set three statistical tests applied assess general dataset, central tendency low high values each parameter. analyses conducted 2020 comparing daily aerosol recorded same calendar days 2012–2019. results indicate increase decrease post-lockdown. While shows no overall behaviour, is parameter most sensitive anthropogenic contribution, an almost all both periods. contributes addressing impact provides methodologies its footprint.

We investigate the impact of NO2 emissions reduction on O3 and CH4 levels in 14 metropolitan areas Japan 2020. To account for meteorological variations, we employ business-as-usual air quality time series generated by machine learning models. Additionally, use satellite observations biogeochemical model simulations to analyse changes. During lockdown period from April 7 May 25 2020, observed a that equated decrease equivalent 3.4 5 years corresponding trends roadside ambient recorded 2010 2019. After normalization, decreased 14.5% at stations 19.1% stations. Surprisingly, did not immediately lead increased O3. Instead, rose after lockdown, specifically August due favorable sunny conditions. This finding is important has been reported previous studies. found changes CO marginally contributed variations across study areas. It recommended simultaneously reduce NOx as well non-methane volatile organic compounds mitigate their adverse effects future policies.
