Conventional techniques for treating wastewater consume significant energy and depending on effectiveness, may result in secondary contamination. In this regard, the microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology has shown much promise as a revolutionary treatment + generation hybrid. This is due to unique ability of electroactive organisms generate direct electricity, recovering electrons from breakdown consumption organic compounds wastewater. article critically assesses current development MFC technology, particularly last two years, focussing technology's economic environmental feasibility. Even though there body literature MFCs with continuously increasing performance levels, not yet got fully commercialised become part urban planning or policy; implies lack government consideration absence industrial scale research. The presents case readiness level life cycle assessment perspectives explains why it still premature draw conclusions based these metrics.
