Elucidating the hydrogeochemical processes and quality assessment of groundwater holds significant importance for its sustainable development. In this paper, 53 samples were collected from a typical agricultural area in northeastern Chongqing municipality SW China. The integration multivariate statistical analysis, ion ratio geomodelling entropy water index, health risks assessment, sensitivity analysis was carried out to explore hydrochemical study. results reveal that cationic concentrations followed order Ca2+ > Mg2+ Na+ K+, while anionic components HCO3− SO42− NO3− Cl−. Based on Piper trilinear diagram, types shown as Ca-HCO3 Ca-Mg-HCO3 types. Hierarchical cluster indicated could be categorized into three groups. compositions primarily influenced by water–rock interactions (e.g., carbonate dissolution silicate weathering). terms irrigation suitability, sodium adsorption ratios (SARs) ranged 0.05 1.82, electrical conductivity (EC) varied 116 1094 μs/cm, indicating most suitable irrigation. entropy-weighted index 15 94, suggesting drinking purposes. Non-carcinogenic human children adult females males, within average values 0.30, 0.21, 0.18, respectively. Sensitivity showed parameters had weight NO3 body (BW) ingestion rate (IR) exposure frequency (EF). Hence, we recommend prioritizing management areas with high salinity levels, avoiding excessive use nitrogen fertilizers, raising awareness among local residents about safe groundwater, providing robust support development areas.

Abstract Groundwater resource plays a central role in every sector of life globally. Unfortunately, the roles groundwater are often unappreciated many parts world, especially developing nations. The paper applied combined geo-electrical method and hydrochemical analysis alongside physical surveys to investigate aquifer promising zones, quality source water supply selected regions. geo-electric resistivity data were used select most aquifer-promising zone for development with key interest potential overburden protective capacity overlying water-bearing unit. Seventeen (17) vertical electrical sounding (VES) acquired four regions reveals that regional weathered/fractured unit which constitutes unity extends from 13.4 m 41.3 depth subsurface value varying between 53 Ωm–1013 Ωm terms values. overburdened thickness (protective soil layers) stretches 2.5 13 resistive layer values ranging 111 2877 Ωm, could provide high cover systems. computed transmissivity hydraulic conductivity range 0.54 $${m}^{2}/h$$ m 2 / h –15.85 , 0.95 m/day–9.19 m/day, respectively. estimated average longitudinal conductance (0.2 moh) systems moderately against surface contaminants. In addition, physicochemical was examined, exposes level heavy metals (HMs) compositions possible public health risks compared WHO permissible drinking limits. sample Rivers had highest concentration HMs (0.089 mg/I–2.012 mg/l), followed by hand-dug wells (HWDs) (0.033 mg/l–1.555 mg/l) lowest borehole (0.011 mg/l–0.511 mg/l). contrast, shows moderation where presence falls within standard water. outcomes study show 63% investigated region consumed above allowance water, while only 37% took standard. conclusion, showed significant impacts anthropogenic activities on quality, provides vital information about adequate sustainability.
