Fish-borne parasites encompass diverse taxonomic groups, including nematodes of the genus Eustrongylides (family Dioctophymatidae), which infect fish, fish-eating birds, and, occasionally, humans. spp. are globally distributed, with E. ignotus and tubifex prevalent in North America, while excisus is more frequent Europe Middle East. This study investigates presence a fish community Po River (Turin, northwest Italy). Among 170 sampled from three sites along River, only two Padogobius bonelli individuals Murazzi site were found to be infected, each hosting single larva within abdominal cavity. Molecular analysis (ITS rDNA sequencing) confirmed parasite as excisus, showing 100% identity known sequences. Although prevalence this was low (1.18%), findings significantly expand host range previously reported other gobiid species Eastern Europe. The widely distributed Italy, especially commercial large lakes, its spread facilitated by oligochaete intermediate hosts piscivorous birds like cormorants. Given benthic habits diet P. bonelli, increased monitoring needed better understand parasite’s transmission dynamics potential risks native biodiversity human health.
