Abstract Background The global spread of antibiotic resistance presents a significant threat to human, animal, and plant health. Metagenomic sequencing is increasingly being utilized profile genes (ARGs) in various environments, but presently mechanism for predicting future trends ARG occurrence patterns lacking. Capability forecasting abundance could be extremely valuable towards informing policy practice aimed at mitigating the evolution ARGs. Results Here we propose ARGfore, multivariate model abundances from time-series metagenomic data. ARGfore extracts features that capture inherent relationships among ARGs trained recognize seasonality. Conclusion outperformed standard methods, such as N-HiTS, LSTM, ARIMA, exhibiting lowest mean absolute percentage error when applied different wastewater datasets. Additionally, demonstrated enhanced computational efficiency, making it promising candidate variety surveillance applications. rapid prediction can facilitate early detection deployment mitigation efforts if necessary. publicly available https://github.com/joungmin-choi/ARGfore .

Marine sediments are recognized as crucial reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, the resistome in East China Sea, an area heavily impacted by human activities, has not been thoroughly studied. Here, we conducted a systematic investigation into these using metagenomic analysis. Overall, detected eighty ARG subtypes and nineteen types. Beta-lactams were dominant type, Gammaproteobacteria was main host this study. Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) major drivers profiles. Although communities significantly differed between spring autumn (p < 0.05), remained stable across two seasons. The assembly ARGs their hosts governed stochastic processes, high ratio processes implied its role stabilization resistome. Co-occurrence network analysis revealed important Deltaproteobacteria profiles Environmental parameters (e.g., temperature density) played certain roles autumn. Moreover, nine pathogen bacteria (HPB) We also found that health risks caused relatively higher spring. Our results will provide strong foundation for development targeted management strategies to mitigate further dissemination spread marine sediments.
