Water pollution caused by antibiotic effluents, particularly ciprofloxacin is a growing environmental concern. To address this problem, silica aerogels containing vinyl, epoxide, or methacrylate organic functionalities were synthesized through facile sol–gel synthesis under ambient conditions and employed as adsorbents in study. The physicochemical structural features of the materials characterized using conventional complementary techniques. Structural characterization confirmed successful chemical functionalization surface for all samples. Similar to pristine aerogel, vinyl-functionalized aerogel displayed typical mesoporous network, whereas epoxide dominantly macroporous structures. Batchwise sorption experiments performed different operating conditions. results equilibrium kinetic adsorption studies showed excellent alignment with Langmuir isotherm pseudo-second-order models, respectively. Under optimum (C0 = 100 mg/L, mads/Vsoln 0.5, pH=6, t 90 min), capacities onto methacrylate-modified 62.7, 45.8 47.8 mg/g, Despite differences at micro- meso- macrostructure level, obtaining similar adsorptive performances confirms that mechanism not only relied on pore filling but also controlled molecular interactions. exhibited repetable performance least six cycles.

Increase in the antibiotic's usage and mis-management antibiotics' disposal has led to occurrence of antibiotic residues surface water bodies. These may pose considerable risks human as well aquatic organisms owing enhancement antimicrobial resistance among microbes. Hence, precautionary measures are need hour curtail compounds water. Considering this, a novel adsorbent been developed from biomass, viz. wheat straw (WS), through calcination (CWS), followed by chemical activation (AWS). adsorbents were employed for removal ciprofloxacin (CIP) Removal efficiency 90% (for CWS) 98% AWS) could be achieved at neutral pH room temperature conditions. The maximum adsorption capacity on synthesized was evaluated 14.51 mg g-1. Experimental findings further explored get insights isotherm, kinetics, thermodynamics involved process. It found that Langmuir model (with R2 value 0.985) provided better fit than other isotherm models.
