The leachate from ion-adsorbed rare earth tailings poses challenges to the application of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process in this field due its large fluctuations ammonia nitrogen concentration (50–300 mg/L) and high flow rate (4000–10,000 m3/d). This study investigated effects nitrogen-loading (NLR) regulation on denitrification performance through reactor operation elucidated mechanisms NLR impacts anammox processes via microbial community analysis metabolic profiling. results revealed a nonlinear relationship between loading system performance. As increased, both efficiency bacterial abundance (rising 5.85% phase P1 11.43% P3) showed synchronous enhancement. However, excessive (>3.68 kg/m3·d) or starvation led deterioration reduced abundance. Microbial communities adopted modular collaboration counteract stress, with modularity indices 0.563 0.545 observed inhibition (P2) (P4), respectively. Zi-Pi plot demonstrated significant increase inter-module connectivity, indicating reinforced interspecies interactions among microorganisms resist fluctuations.
