Abstract In the past decades, search for a more sustainable way of global development has increased in importance international politics and economy. A driving force is continuing degradation environment many areas world, often caused or accelerated by population growth climate change. Sustainable seen as key approach to mitigate these processes. It been defined “development that meets needs present without compromising ability future generations meet their own needs.” But how can this ambitious goal be achieved light numerous challenges? Engineering very influential human practice must addressed context. Engineers are crucially involved design construction our built thus shaping almost its entire development. However, when designing solution given problem, effects outside system borders not considered. If combined with narrowly confined linear problem-solving approach, it inherently prone create new environmental challenges. We postulate paradigm engineering part progress towards think integrate sound understanding ecological principles, processes, interdependencies well thorough thinking. call ecology-inspired “ecological engineering” redefine follows: Ecological integrates organisms existing holistic problem-solving. paper, we explore historical earlier definitions underlying value systems. Based on analysis, propose conceptual define seven principles point label conferred Good Practice.

The study provides a systematic literature review (SLR) encompassing industrial wastewater management research from the past decade, examining enablers, challenges, and prevailing practices. Originating manufacturing, energy production, diverse processes, wastewater's handling is critical due to its potential impact environment public health. aims comprehend current state of management, pinpoint gaps, outline future prospects. SLR methodology involves scouring Scopus database, yielding an initial pool 253 articles. Refinement via search code leaves 101 articles, followed by abstract screening that reduces articles 79, finally 66 well-focused left for thorough full-text examination. Results underscore significance regulatory frameworks, technological innovation, sustainability considerations as cornerstones effective management. However, substantial impediments like; inadequate infrastructure, resource constraints necessity stakeholder collaboration still exist. highlights emerging domains, exemplified advanced technologies like nanotechnology bioremediation, alongside pivotal role circular economy principles in offers exhaustive view contemporary accentuating imperative all-encompassing approach integrates regulatory, technological, facets. Notably, identifies gaps opportunities forthcoming exploration, advocating interdisciplinary intensified collaboration. study's insights cater policymakers, practitioners, researchers, equipping them address challenges capitalize on prospects effectively.

Abstract The tannery industry inevitably generates toxic and catastrophic wastewater, which results in a huge threat to public health water resources. Therefore, this work aimed synthesize parthenium hysterophorus-based biochar–Fe 3 O 4 composite for removal of Cr(VI) from wastewater under full factorial experimental designs the Box–Behnken, was analyzed using response surface methodology four independent factors pH (3, 6, 9), initial concentrations (40, 70, 100 mg/L), contact times (30, 60, 90 min), adsorbent doses (20, mg/100 mL). This described by high BET area 237.4 m 2 /g, XRD prominent peaks, SEM morphology corroborate FTIR multifunctionalities O–H at 3296 cm −1 , vibration ketone C–OH 1240 C–O–C 1147 Fe–O stretching 542 . maximum Cr(IV) efficiency 91.8% recorded an concentration 40 mg/L, 3, dose mL, time min, whereas minimum 17.3% observed 20 mL dose, 9, 30 min. real determined be 85.13 mg/L its remediation found 81.8%. Langmuir’s model best fit with data R 0.99 q max 400 mg/g, showing that adsorption process homogenous monolayer. In conclusion, were encouraging, appears potential candidate Cr wastewater.

Anaerobic wastewater treatment is still a dynamically developing technology ensuring the effective degradation of organic compounds and biogas production. As evidenced in large scale-up, this technological solution surpasses aerobic methods many aspects. Its advantages stem from feasibility operation at high load rate, smaller production difficult-to-manage sewage sludge, space cubature required, high-methane ultimately produced. The exploitation anaerobic reactors line with assumption circular economy, material recycling by reduced CO2 emissions energy consumption, renewable energy. Despite their unquestionable advantages, there need to seek novel approaches improve currently exploited installations. key avenues research entail improvements stability bioreactor operations enhancement adaptability changing unfavorable process parameters. versatility such systems would also be greatly improved increasing nitrogen phosphorus removal rates. Attempts have been made achieve these goals setting up separate zones within bioreactors for individual steps methane fermentation, incorporating active fillings promote nutrient removal, introducing chemical physical treatments. An interesting use microwave radiation stimulate temperature conditions induce non-thermal phenomena, as enhancing enzymatic activity methanogenic microflora. Another prospective approach integrate digesters into microalgal biomass systems. aim review paper present thus-far knowledge about treatment, including standard solutions innovative ones, effectiveness which has corroborated pilot-scale

Scarcity of freshwater for agriculture has led to increased utilization treated wastewater (TWW), establishing it as a significant and reliable source irrigation water. However, years research indicate that if not managed adequately, TWW may deleteriously affect soil functioning plant productivity, pose hazard human environmental health. This review leverages the experience researchers, stakeholders, policymakers from Israel, United-States, Europe present holistic, multidisciplinary perspective on maximizing benefits municipal use irrigation. We specifically draw extensive knowledge gained in world leader agricultural implementation. The first two sections work set foundation understanding current challenges involved with TWW, detailing known emerging agronomic issues (such salinity phytotoxicity) public health risks contaminants concern pathogens). then presents solutions address these challenges, including technological management-based well control policies. concluding section suggestions path forward, emphasizing importance improving links between policy, better outreach practitioners. this platform call action, form global harmonized data system will centralize scientific findings agronomic, effects Insights such collaboration help mitigate risks, facilitate more sustainable food production future.
