ABSTRACT Understanding the link between landscape pattern and water conservation service (WCS) is crucial for effective resource planning. However, impact of configuration on WCS remains unclear. This study explored spatiotemporal relationships in Zoige Plateau (ZP), a vital waterhead yellow river, from 1990 to 2020. The results showed that woodland high‐coverage grassland exhibited highest capacity contributed greatest total WCS, suggesting importance protecting coverage area grassland. From 2020, areas high‐ medium‐coverage grasslands significantly decreased, implying adverse effects composition changes ZP's during past few decades. metrics significant variability across years, climate scenarios regions, highlighting role climatic underlying surface. Under realistic scenarios, greater most parts western northern ZP, which negatively correlated with aggregation index, patch density, mean fractal dimension index but positively shannon's diversity it better increase proportion large patches, reduce fragmentation, maintain diverse types. Conversely, southeastern part central where an opposite correlation aforementioned metrics, maintaining simpler type higher connectivity may be useful. These findings provided important insights identifying sensitive affect optimizing landscapes sustain WCS.

The Tibetan Plateau, known as the "Water Tower of Asia", is source many rivers in Asia, and its water conservation function basis for optimization ecological barrier security Asian countries. Changes in land use/land cover (LULC) can impact water yield (WY) by altering the structural layout and functions of terrestrial ecosystems. Therefore, to ensure regional economic ecosystem sustainability, it is critical investigate correlation between LULC change WY. The GMOP-PLUS-InVEST (GPI) coupling model based on gray multi-objective optimization model, patch-generating use simulation integrated valuation services trade-offs was used this study. Establishing three different scenarios: business as usual (BAU), development scenario (ED), ecological conservation (EC) predict distribution pattern Nansi Lake Basin (NLB) 2035, obtain WY from 2000 2035. Getis-Ord Gi* Anselin Local Moran's I were spatial–temporal features at grid scale. results indicated that: (1) dominant types NLB farmland construction land. primary transfer trend encroaching due acceleration urbanization process policy intervention. (2) 2035 showed that BAU had a continuous for nearly 20 years; Under ED, intensity encroachment accelerating; EC, an apparent increase proportion could be seen, contradiction eased, which expected more line with planning objectives. Modeling of watershed Ecosystem Services (ES) processes has increased greatly in recent years, potentially improving environmental management and decision-making by describing the value nature. ES models may be sensitive to different conditions and, therefore, should ideally validated against observed data for their use as a decision-support instrument. However, outcomes from such modeling are barely validated, making it difficult assess uncertainties associated with justify actual usefulness develop generalizable recommendations. This study proposes framework systematic validation one tools, InVEST Nutrient Delivery Model (NDR) nutrient retention estimates. The is divided into three stages: 1) running NDR model inputs, processes, outputs; 2) building long-term reference dataset open access water quality observations; 3) using calibration validation. We applied this twenty watersheds Commonwealth Puerto Rico, where availability resembles thar across United States. Long-term monitoring stations facilitated Our provided reproducible method linking vast network U.S. its territories evaluating InVEST's performance. Beyond development, found that explained 62.7 % 79.3 variance total nitrogen phosphorus between 2000 2022, respectively, supporting suitability scale ecosystem services assessment. findings can also serve support other locations tropics without publically available data.
