Abstract Surface geologic features form a detailed record of Venus’ evolution. Venus displays profusion volcanic and tectonics features, including both familiar exotic forms. One challenge to assessing the role these in evolution is that there are too few impact craters permit age dates for specific or regions. Similarly, without surface water, erosion limited cannot be used evaluate age. These same observations indicate has, on average, very young (150–1000 Ma), with most recent deformation volcanism largely preserved except where covered by ejecta. In contrast, activity Mars, Moon, Mercury occurred 1st billion years. Earth’s processes almost all result plate tectonics. lacks such network connected, large scale plates, leaving nature dominant geodynamic process up debate. this review article, we describe key tectonic models their origin, possible links We also present current knowledge composition thickness crust, lithospheric thickness, heat flow given critical shaping geology interior Given hot lithosphere, abundant potential analogues continents, roll-back subduction, microplates, it may provide insights into early Earth, prior onset true explore similarities differences between Proterozoic Archean Earth. Finally, future measurements needed advance our understanding volcanism, tectonism, Venus.

Abstract The composition and thickness of the venusian crust their dependence on thermal gradients geodynamic setting are not well constrained. Here, we use metamorphic phase transitions onset melting to determine maximum crustal basaltic plains in different tectonic settings. Crustal is limited ~40 km a stagnant lid regime with low gradient 5 °C/km due density overturn delamination. In contrast, mobile high 25 restricted ~20 melting. thickest can be ~65 for 10 °C/km. Our models show that cannot thicker than 20–65 without either causing delamination recycling or producing volcanic eruptions.

Abstract There is a growing consensus that Venus seismically active, although its level of seismicity could be very different from Earth due to the lack plate tectonics. Here, we estimate upper and lower bounds on expected annual by scaling Earth. We consider factors for tectonic settings account seismogenic thickness Venus. find 95–296 venusquakes equal or bigger than moment magnitude ( M w ) 4 per year are an inactive Venus, where global rate assumed similar continental intraplate For active scenarios, assume coronae, fold belts, rifts currently active. This results in 1,161–3,609 ≥ annually as realistic bound 5,715–17,773 maximum
