Many challenges should be tackled in transitioning to a low-carbon energy system, motivating many researchers study these challenges. In this context, the present aims identify through systematic literature review of studies published between 2006 and 2023 propose comprehensive framework To end, PICOC was applied set research scope properly; an integrated method called PSALSAR protocol used find, evaluate, publications Scopus Web Science. As result, 123 articles were reviewed, seventeen identified classified into five social, economic, environmental, technical, institutional Results indicated that international agreements on climate change could boost number transition. Also, it is qualitative methods more earlier studies, topics have become profound over years.

The Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy) is the key to achieving climate goals constructing effective policies have an immense role foster actions. three major components of SDG include energy accessibility, renewable penetration intensity. Energy consumption characteristics in a country can predominantly influence all 7. Further, intrinsically linked several policies. Understanding nexuses will be conducive policymakers community. This study aims at providing deeper perspectives on by analyzing changes incurred penetration, installed capacity, production consumption-based emission, emission analysis extended four consuming sectors (including industrial, transportation, residential commercial sectors) 40 countries. A thorough investigation performed based clustering approach identify pattern among consumption. yielded scenarios where countries highest industrial (Scenario 1), transportation 2), sector 3), respectively. Scenario 1 has higher growth achieved with proper policy framework. 2 observed stagnant promoting renewables needs additional efforts decouple fossil fuel usage. 3 moderate highest. possess energy-consuming scenarios. For identified patterns, framework proposed substantiate sustainability which are constructed two stages, i.e., one form core other sustain policy. contributions further delineate relation between elements (energy intensity). exerted patterns highly supportive directing existing optimized findings this study.

Wind power is rapidly growing in the Finnish grid, and Finland's electricity consumption low summer compared to winter. Hence, there a need for storage that can absorb large amount of energy during discharge it This study examines one such technology, geological hydrogen storage, which has potential store on GWh scale also over longer periods time. generation system was modelled with without using LEAP-NEMO modeling toolkit. The results showed about 69% decline carbon dioxide emissions as well fossil fuel-based accompanied higher capability meet demand less imports both scenarios. Finally, critical analysis mix presented.

The need for faster and deeper transitions toward more sustainable development pathways is now widely recognized. How to meet that has been at the center of a growing body academic research real-world policy implementation. This paper presents our perspective on some most powerful insights have emerged from this ongoing work. In particular, we highlight how sustainability can be usefully conceptualized, they come about evolve, shaped guided through deliberate interventions. Throughout paper, also many questions remain unresolved which progress would especially helpful pursuit development. Our approach these "how" draws two strands solution-driven advice: one emerging studies human societies interact with nature other those their technologies. Consumption-production systems focus extensive work in both strands. To help build bridges between them, recently brought together cross-section relevant scholars PNAS Special Feature "Sustainability consumption-production systems." Their contributions are summarized companion written introduce [F. W. Geels, F. Kern, C. Clark, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. (2023)]. We draw Perspective present here as well reading literatures.

European countries are facing a dual challenge in 2022 with regard to how reimagine energy security after cutting ties Russian energy, but without undermining the imperative for continent-wide transition. In this article, sociotechnical imaginaries framework is utilised capture broader dynamics beyond typical connotation of through supply-side economics. This implemented by situating discursive struggles over framing global transition and dependence on Russia vis-à-vis predominant visions Finland. By utilising argumentative discourse analysis based interview documentary data focusing debates Finland during 2015–2019, article uncovers connected potentially reframing them. The identified tensions focused 1) future should be governed, 2) whether threat or reliable trading partner supplier 3) approach relation security. While focus controversies, also identifies increasing coherence attaining both sustainability goals. There attempts imagine futures more fashion that would societal broadly. ways imagining development coproduced technologies tend constrained techno-economic rationality. Up early months 2022, typically undermined political risks favour interdependence market-driven liberalism, widely shared across Union.

In the 21st century, environmental goals such as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increasing share renewable energy sources in mix became main priority policy making. At same time, goal maintaining independence has been somewhat marginalized only regained importance context crisis caused by events Covid-19 pandemic war Ukraine. Both circumstances pose a significant problem for countries Central Eastern Europe; therefore, this article presents an assessment effectiveness (EoEP) implementation 11 region. The evaluation process uses multi-criteria analysis using following conditions: (1) environmental; (2) resource; (3) economic (4) security. research was conducted long-term perspective 21 years. results show low level objectives analyzed average advancement transformation most them. balance sheets CEE surveyed are still dominated non-renewable (share 65–97%). This dominance is not conducive to security because many studied do have their own coal, or oil (resource sufficiency less than 1/3 8 studied). observed trends testify EoEP goals, both areas. suggest that effective path diversification mixes achieved through abandonment resources simultaneous replacement hydropower nuclear energy.
