Battery thermal management system (BTMS) based on phase change materials (PCMs) is simple in structure while presenting outstanding performance, but the core bottleneck hindering industrialization of which poor performance PCMs’ pivotal properties. Apart from that, under extreme conditions, single passive temperature‐control technology apparently could not meet demands. Therefore, modification strategies to improve PCM's properties suitable for BTMS are thoroughly reviewed. Moreover, optimization as‐mentioned systems by integrating them with other active heating or cooling devices obtain advanced and full‐temperature responsive capability also summarized. Profound opinions concerning about prospect challenges PCM‐BTMS given. It expected provide some innovative ideas advancement such promising technology.
