MXenes and MBenes, advanced two-dimensional materials with outstanding structural electronic properties, are gaining prominence in energy conversion storage, particularly for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). ORR, essential fuel cells metal-air batteries, suffers from sluggish kinetics, efficient catalysts. While noble metals like platinum excel this role, their high cost scarcity necessitate alternatives. MXenes, consisting of transition metal carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides, exhibit metallic conductivity tunable surface chemistry, making them ideal ORR catalysis. Similarly, nitride-based analogs, show great promise. Optimization methods selective etching, functionalization, heteroatom doping significantly enhance catalytic performance. This review explores synthesis, structure, mechanisms highlighting recent progress, addressing stability scalability challenges, identifying future directions improving efficiency sustainable applications.

Integrated approach for improving mechanical performance and EMI shielding of CFRE via surface‐modified MXene DOI

Abstract Achieving high electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness alongside outstanding mechanical properties remains a notable challenge for carbon fiber‐reinforced epoxy (CFRE) composites. Herein, an efficient method interface modification is proposed to produce hybrid CFREs with enhanced EMI capabilities and exceptional properties. This study introduces the fabrication of CFRE composites incorporating APTES‐modified MXene sheets into matrix (AM‐CFRE), demonstrating significant improvements in structural integrity EMI‐shielding performance. Compared pristine (P‐CFRE), AM‐CFRE exhibits 39.63%, 35.41%, 65.01%, 29.71%, 34.9%, 34.21% increase tensile strength, Young's modulus, toughness, flexural short beam respectively. Furthermore, demonstrates ~50% improvement X‐band compared P‐CFRE. The lightweight structure, strong strength remarkable shielding, shows great potential various applications, particularly protecting avionics within aerospace defense industries. Highlights was synthesized via HF etching, its surface modified APTES. Hybrid made system containing surface‐modified MXene. Exceptional thermo‐mechanical were achieved CFRE. achieves 25.36 dB X‐band.
