The Yellow River Basin (YRB) serves as a critical ecological functional and economic zone in China. However, due to the rapid social development, YRB has encountered dual pressure from anthropogenic disturbances climate change, leading intensified conflicts among production, living, spaces (PLES). In this study, we examined spatiotemporal evolution pattern transition mode of PLES 1980 2020 at county level, evaluated eco-environmental effects, identified key driving factors. results indicate that land-use changes are marked by continuous increase living space, while initially decreased before increasing, production increased decreasing, with year 2000 serving pivotal point these transitions. At transformations have significant spatial differentiation. north region Hu Line is predominantly characterized reduction whereas south primarily exhibits declines space increases downstream region. Consequently, environmental quality index (EQI) also trend an initial decline followed increase. Frequent mutual conversions between influenced major national conservation policies after 2000, well on population GDP growth, been primary manifestations transformation These findings suggest implementation appropriate governance measures, exploring finer level can provide clearer changes, supporting detailed basin management for sustainable development.

In the context of global climate change, implementing ecological projects in China is critical for improving ecosystem quality, conservation, and sustainable development. Despite progress, engineering areas remain vulnerable to degradation. Assessing these identifying key regions improvement essential guiding project construction fostering This study analyzed spatial differentiation health greenness Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a area “Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Project” (TNSFP). A dual assessment framework integrating indicators was developed comprehensively evaluate benefits identify priority management. The results indicate following: (1) Among 104 counties districts Mongolia, with high Ecological Health Index (EHI) values are primarily located forests grasslands, while low EHI found agricultural–pastoral transition zones, deserts, Gobi, urban western Mongolia; (2) Greenness (EGI) exhibits medium across most except Daxinganling woodland area. Low EGI predominantly desert grassland west, as well central (3) Quality (EQI) at raster scale shows general decline from northeast southwest, concentrated areas; (4) Key quality mainly deserts Gobi areas, accounting approximately 23.65% These findings provide valuable insights planning management TNSFP offer significant support decision-making.

ABSTRACT Balancing land development and ecological protection poses significant challenges for sustainable in arid semi‐arid regions like Inner Mongolia. This study uses the integrated valuation of ecosystem services (ESs) trade‐offs model patch‐generated land‐use simulation to analyze impacts land‐use/cover (LULC) changes on ESs from 2005 2020 simulate scenarios 2035. The results show that (1) governance efforts improved comprehensive index (CEI), habitat quality, soil conservation capacity but led a decrease annual water yield (AWY) eastern region. Additionally, conversion grassland forest construction farmland caused slight declines carbon sequestration increased nitrogen export. (2) external driving factors different vary, internal relationships within have also changed. Notably, LULC transformed synergy between AWY quality into trade‐off relationship after 2010 due grassland. (3) Among five scenarios, scenario combined with zonal management strategies can achieve goals economic growth, protection, food security. clarifies affecting Mongolia provides scientific basis future policies. It fills gap spatiotemporal under multiple this These findings offer valuable references promoting similar regions, highlighting importance integrating multi‐objective adaptive practices balance objectives.
