Background: Sarcopenia, characterized by a progressive decline in muscle mass and strength, poses significant public health challenges for the elderly, impacting physical performance quality of life. This study aims to investigate associations between glucose profile, fasting insulin, renal function, strength among elderly residents single-centered nursing home Indonesia, identifying potential biomarkers sarcopenia. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 31 Santa Anna Nursing Home, with measured using handgrip dynamometry biochemical parameters evaluated through standardized laboratory methods. Results: Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) revealed strong negative correlations profile (β = − 0.683, p < 0.01) insulin 0.208, 0.05) while function showed moderate positive relationship 0.295, 0.05). Conclusion: These findings highlight as critical predictors sarcopenia, offering pathways early detection targeted interventions. Future research should explore longitudinal assessments molecular mechanisms refine sarcopenia prevention strategies aging populations. Keywords: biomarkers,

Sarcopenia corresponds to a decrease in muscle mass and strength. CCL5 is new myokine whose expression, along with the CCR5 receptor, increased sarcopenic muscle. Therefore, we evaluated whether induce sarcopenic-like effect on skeletal tissue cultured cells. Electroporation tibialis anterior (TA) of mice was used overexpress CCL5. The TA muscles were analyzed by measuring fiber diameter, content sarcomeric proteins, gene expression E3-ligases. C2C12 myotubes single-isolated flexor digitorum brevis (FDB) fibers also treated recombinant (rCCL5). participation using antagonist maraviroc (MVC). Protein structural analyses performed. results showed that overexpression led sarcopenia reducing strength mass, muscle-fiber protein content, upregulating same phenotype observed FDB fibers. We reactive oxygen species (ROS) production carbonylated denoting oxidative stress induced When antagonized, effects produced rCCL5 prevented. In conclusion, report for first time novel exerts through receptor.

This study aimed to explore the risk factors associated with intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW) in critically ill patients at of malnutrition and evaluate efficacy early enteral nutrition (EEN) role biomarkers managing ICU-AW. retrospective, observational cohort included 180 admitted emergency unit First Affiliated Hospital Xiamen University from January 2022 December 2023. Patients were divided into ICU-AW group non-ICU-AW according whether they developed ICU-AW, or categorized EEN parenteral (PN) groups nutritional support. was diagnosed using Medical Research Council score. The primary outcome occurrence significant age, sex, type therapy, mechanical ventilation (MV), body mass index (BMI), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr) levels (P<0.05). PN earlier than did group, a difference observed (log-rank P<0.001). Among for mean prealbumin (PAB)/C-reactive protein (CRP) ratio had highest diagnostic accuracy (area under curve [AUC] 0.928, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 0.892-0.946), surpassing Cr/BUN (AUC 0.740, CI 0.663-0.819) transferrin 0.653, 0.574-0.733). Independent include female advanced PN, MV, lower BMI, elevated BUN Cr levels. may potentially delay onset, PAB/CRP be an effective marker this condition.

Sarcopenia, characterized by loss of muscle mass and strength, particularly affects older adults is linked to increased morbidity mortality. The study aimed investigate the relationship between biomarkers, including hemoglobin (Hb), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII), sarcopenia in US population. Utilizing NHANES data from 2003 2018, analyzed 5,615 participants, categorizing them based on quartiles Hb, SII, LDH levels. It employed logistic regression models assess these biomarkers risk, adjusting for various confounders. High levels LDH, Hb SII were significantly associated with sarcopenia, higher risk highest quartile. AUC all indicators predicting was 0.925 (sensitivity 0.925; specificity 0.743). concludes that elevated are significant emphasizing role inflammation its development potential markers early detection intervention.
