Zinc supplementation has been considered a potential therapy for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We aimed to examine zinc efficacy in adult patients with COVID-19 infection. We conducted prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial. Patients who were tested positive without end-organ failure randomized oral (n = 231) or matching placebo 239) 15 days. The primary combined outcome was death due intensive care unit (ICU) admission ≤30 days after randomization. Secondary outcomes included length of hospital stay inpatients and duration symptoms COVID-19-related hospitalization outpatients.190 (40.4%) ambulatory 280 (59.6%) hospitalized. Mortality at 30 6.5% the group 9.2% (OR: .68; 95% CI .34-1.35); ICU rates were, respectively, 5.2% 11.3% .43; .21-.87). Combined lower versus .58; .33-.99). Consistent results observed prespecified subgroups aged <65 years, those comorbidity, needed oxygen baseline. Length shorter (difference: 3.5 days; 2.76-4.23) inpatient group; decreased treatment outpatients 1.9 .62-2.6). No severe adverse events during study. Our showed that, patients, can decrease 30-day death, rate shorten symptom duration. Clinical Trials Registration. ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05212480.

Zinc is an essential trace element for the maintenance of life because it acts as a center activity or cofactor hundreds enzymes. deficiency causes variety symptoms, including anemia, dermatitis, stomatitis, alopecia, bedsores, decreased appetite, impaired growth, gonadal dysfunction, susceptibility to infection, and taste disorders, etc. In March 2017, zinc acetate hydrate, which had been approved Wilson disease in Japan, received additional indication hypozincemia. Hypozincemia frequently observed patients with chronic liver (CLD), especially cirrhosis, has recently shown that hypozincemia closely related development fibrosis increased risk carcinogenesis, addition appearance various subjective symptoms. Moreover, CLD may be associated sarcopenia (i.e., decrease muscle strength mass) frailty vulnerability), receive much attention these days. It assumed treatment hydrate will become widespread CLD. also have potential improving This review primarily outlines significance

The role of vitamin D supplementation in modulating clinical outcomes and inflammatory responses COVID- 19 patients has garnered significant interest. This umbrella review consolidates current evidence to evaluate the association between 19-related outcomes. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple databases identify relevant systematic reviews meta-analyses. Studies assessing impact on disease severity, mortality, hospitalization, markers were included. Methodological quality assessed using standardized tools. findings suggest that may be associated with reduced mortality improved patients. Several studies reported a decrease markers, such as C-reactive protein interleukin- 6, following supplementation. However, variations study design, dosage regimens, baseline status limit generalizability results. Vitamin appears have potential improving Nevertheless, due heterogeneity among studies, further high-quality randomized controlled trials are warranted confirm these findings.

Background Dietary micronutrients may play important roles in the improvement of immune responses against SARS-CoV-2. This study aimed to assess effect on platelet activating factor (PAF) and immunity with a special focus coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods All paper published English effects including fat soluble vitamins, water minerals PAF, immunity, COVID-19 were collected from online valid databases. Results Vitamin A modulate expression PAF-receptor gene patients COVID-19. D inflammatory response through influencing PAF pathway. E improve related heart injuries by exert anti-PAF activities. C status have anti-inflammatory micro-thrombotic SARS-CoV-2 patients. Furthermore, some trace elements such as copper, selenium, iron key strengthens inactivate acetyl hydrolase. Conclusion narrative review highlighted importance function modulation Further longitudinal studies are warranted.

Objective: This living review of systematic reviews investigates the types and volume research pertaining to natural health products therapies as they relate prevention and/or treatment COVID-19 post-COVID syndrome. Methods: A monthly search for published peer-reviewed topic was initiated May 2022 is ongoing. Using a keyword strategy with clear inclusion exclusion criteria, summary studies included, overall outcome focus were assessed. Results: total 225 encompassing 5,636 randomized controlled trials (49.8%, n=112), observational (21.3%, n=48), clinical (20.4%, n=46), other (12%, n=27) included. Of those, 28.9% (n=65) focused on prevention, 67.6% (n=152) treatment, 3.1% (n=8) post-COVID. The reviewed included herbal medicine, vitamins, minerals, products, therapies, 83.5% (n=188) all stating positive beneficial potential or therapy investigated. Conclusion: concludes that there growing interest in respect infections addressing disease severity mortality, especially adjunct conventional medical intervention. Nonetheless, lack high-quality evidence consistency reporting across large breadth management options.

Early epidemic reports have linked low average 25(OH) vitamin D levels with increased COVID-19 mortality. However, there has been limited updated research on and its impact This study aimed to update the initial report studying link between deficiency mortality by using multi-country data in 19 European countries up middle of June 2023. for included this were downloaded from Our World Data 1 March 2020, 14 2023, statistical analysis. The collected conducting a literature review. A generalized estimation equation model was used data. Compared ≤50 nmol/L, greater than 50 nmol/L had lower rates (RR = 0.794, 95% CI: 0.662–0.953). statistically significant negative Spearman rank correlation observed We also found significantly high levels. Randomized trials supplementation are needed. In meantime, issue use should be debated relation ongoing discussions national post-COVID-19 resilience against future pandemics.
