Multifunctional productive systems based on native species management, a new paradigm that counters colonial worldviews, offer sustainable sources of food and materials while preserving biodiversity. Despite extensive discussions in herbaceous agricultural systems, applying this concept to forests Northern Patagonia remains unclear. system implementation can be approached from fractal perspective, with evaluations at the stand level being essential for understanding ecological processes across scales. Here, we exemplify research management multiple species, integrating results 10 years field experiments impacts biomass harvesting intensity (HI) nine Nature's Contributions People (NCPs), including habitat creation, pollination, soil formation, hazard regulation, prevention invasions, provision energy, food, materials, options. Our findings reveal some regulating NCPs peak null HI, certain material maximize highest HI. Low intermediate HI (30–50%) show more balanced all NCPs. suggest extraction is necessary enhance most NCPs, emphasizing importance balancing provisioning biodiversity conservation schemes. We propose future directions designing multifunctional forest advocating low-density plantation tree high wood quality within natural matrix. This approach may yield higher levels over time compared current cattle breeding system, implications beyond Patagonia, considering historical associations such practices worldviews globally.

Abstract The increasing frequency and severity of disturbances to coastal dune ecosystems requires developing implementing restoration strategies that rapidly accelerate re‐establishment vegetation, enhance accretion, ultimately preserve ecosystem services. To assess how re‐establish vegetation counter losses, we conducted a manipulative field experiment on created foredune crest in Northeast Florida, USA determine what combinations planting density, outplant species composition, nutrient addition maximize revegetation rate. Above‐ground biomass densely planted plots with added nutrients was 4.7–7.3 times at conventional densities after only 3 months. Critically, thickly vegetated, high‐density accreted 1–5 cm more sediment months 7.5–22 15 months, demonstrating this method can kickstart dune‐building processes. Additionally, above‐ below‐ground planted, fertilized containing bitter panicum ( Panicum amarum ) were consistently higher sand than similar sea oats Uniola paniculata ), suggesting schemes involving early successional may be most effective for rapid dune‐building. Synthesis applications . Because coupling dense trigger self‐sustaining, reinforcing plant growth feedbacks within approach help the long‐term success projects.

Following Japanese Imperial occupation of Korea and the Korean War, South Korea's forests faced substantial decline due to bombing shelling, illegal logging, overharvesting trees non-timer forest products. Around rural communities, fuel scarcity over course 20th Century conflict caused deprivation. Reforestation attempts following War saw use black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), an introduced species native United States. Black would eventually become invasive Korea. This study used elite interview archival research determine why States became a vocal proponent in reforestation campaigns. Archival documents highlight issues denudation forested mountains, including changes flood frequency severity. Eroded soils sands streambanks riverbanks, resulting geomorphic failure. The erosion flooding provide context for need reforestation. While American involvement is evident from documents, it clear that initially occurred prior arrival specialists advisors. case highlights impacts on post-war recovery ecosystems, importance socio-economic factors warfare ecology.

The objective of this study is to introduce a coherent theoretical perspective for sustaining forested landscapes at different scales: meta (forest region), gamma property) and alpha stand), with some details on practical implementation. main part introduces an integrated set approaches under three headings: a) design, b) jardinage, c) continuous observation. based evidence gathered in the broadleaf conifer mixed forests north-eastern China, European temperate forests, various forest regions India, afro-montane Southern Africa, pine-oak Mexican Sierra Madre Occidental.

Abstract Scots pine is of greatest importance in northern Germany regarding its cultivation area and expected capability to perform climate change. However, predominantly occurs monocultures. Therefore, future forestry depends on an adaptation change while improving ecological economic forest functions. Yet development remains uncertain due leeway silvicultural guidelines climate. This study questions: ( i ) what the range shares under different management Germany, ii how will current stands develop iii uncertainty arising from models options? To answer these issues we selected types site- climate-sensitively either minimize or maximize shares, simulated four, now practiced scenarios for 50 years based German National Forest Inventory analyzed differences, be interpreted as uncertainty. Novel our approach climate-sensitive selection large scales which emphasizes contrasts guidelines. The results show that growing stock decrease even if promoted forestry. predicted restoration rate ranges 72% depending scenario previous thinning regime. In conclusion, given concepts considering today’s high proportion old pine, alarmingly slow. Amid rapidly changing climate, recommend further adjust accelerate restoration.
