Introduction The sustainable development of marine fisheries has been a major concern, with the carrying capacity fishery resources becoming focal point research. Methods This study, utilizing remote sensing data, capture catch and fishing effort data from 2013 to 2020, aims determine maximum yield using surplus production model provide comprehensive assessment status potential China’s resources. Results results indicate that exhibit significant regional variability, East China Sea contributing largest share maintaining sustainability, while regions such as South Sea, Yellow Bohai have exceeded their ecological capacities. Correlation analysis highlights nutrient levels water quality (e.g., chemical oxygen demand) are critical for resource stability, distribution management protected areas further influence capacity. Discussion study contributes more effective policies, aiming balance economic benefits health. By understanding these dynamics, policymakers can better address challenges facing fisheries.

European pilchard (Sardina pilchardus), herein referred to as "sardine" or "European sardine", is the most productive and economically important small pelagic fish in Northwest African waters. Thus far, very little known about its stock status West region despite rapid decadal increase catch production. The present study provides avenues vital improving guidance for sustainable species management. In this region, sardine divided administratively into three stocks (northern: N, central: A + B, southern: C). Thus, used two Surplus Production Models (SPM) evaluate sardine's status. Sardine's scientific survey biomass data obtained from FAO-CECAF's (Fishery Committee Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF)) latest reports were analysis fit SPMs investigate effectiveness of available catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) trends setting total allowable (TAC) sustaining different region. Results indicate that north fished at optimum levels. Meanwhile, output based on indices indicated a healthy state central southern stocks. Similarly, fishery CPUE showed similar compared index, indicating Therefore, cases where index unavailable run assessments, suggests CPUEs could be monitor over time may also provide proxies. Additionally, with climate other environmental changes, must regularly monitored consistent comparable methodologies updated fisheries series data.

Fisheries management needs to ensure that resources are exploited sustainably and the risk of depletion is at an acceptable level. In developing countries, multi-gear, multispecies fisheries often lack data, making conventional stock assessment approaches unsuitable. Data-limited methods have been developed compare quantitative measures fishery status with biological reference points. Morocco, despite its large productive ecosystems, most fishing stocks remain unassessed. We selected a chub mackerel, considering availability survey fact it occupies important place in small pelagic resources. Although this stock, there new information on migration possible exchange between two mackerel (central southern). This study presents first attempt combined provide Maximum Sustainable Yield ( MSY ) estimates related indicators Moroccan (center south) by using used data-limited approaches, Stochastic Surplus Production model Continuous Time (SPiCT) Length Based Spawning Potential Ratio estimation (LBSPR). These were applied analyze state estimate how far away was from estimated harvest relative all available time series data. The findings valuable advice for while remarking advantages limitations mackerel. SPiCT results show current level closely aligns , biomass B below mortality F exceeds . For LBSPR, SPR values lower than point 40%, which serves as proxy indicating also Both models suggest full overexploited mainly period (2016-2020), different perception one provided only analyzing indices fluctuations indicate critical over longer period. Then, exercise pointing out importance having data sources better estimation.

Stock depletion level is an important concept in the assessment and management of exploited fish stocks because it often used conjunction with reference points to infer stock status. Both can be highly dependent on stock–recruitment relationship. Here, we show how estimated models, what data inform level, relationship influences level. There are a variety that provide information abundance. In addition, estimate unexploited absolute abundance needs determined. This means extrapolating back time start fishery, accounting for removals productivity. Uncertainty arises model account same by either estimating low productivity (e.g., natural mortality) high carrying capacity or capacity, different relationships between which strongly controlled Therefore, estimates particularly sensitive uncertainty biological processes related mortality growth when length composition used. depletion-based need recruitment variability, autocorrelation, trends, regime shifts. Future research focus mortality, relationship, asymptotic length, shape selectivity curve, strategies robust these parameters. Tagging studies, including close-kin mark-recapture, address some issues. However, will remain uncertain.
