Phthalate esters (PAEs), commonly used in food packaging materials, pose a potential health risk due to their migration into matrices. Propolis, resinous bee product widely consumed for its benefits, is often packaged plastics, raising concerns about PAE contamination. However, the occurrence of PAEs within propolis has been scarcely investigated. This study quantified contamination profiles ethanolic extracts (PE) and capsules (PCs) from China. The GC-MS/MS analysis 20 demonstrated high linearity, indicating reliability method. limits quantification (LOQ) ranged 1.3 26.2 µg/kg, detection (LOD) 0.4 8.6 µg/kg. Matrix effects between 9% 33%. Five were detected PE samples: dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl (DEP), diisobutyl (DiBP), dibutyl (DBP) bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP). Seventeen PC samples, with 15 consistently present all samples (100% positivity). Diallyl (DAP), dipropyl (DPrP) di-n-octyl (DNOP) not any sample. total mean concentration 17 (∑17 PAEs) 0.87 mg/kg 23.71 mg/kg. found that had highest DBP (0.24 mg/kg) di-heptyl (DHP: 2.29 levels on average, respectively. While showed higher than PE. Therefore, this provides insight raw extract encapsulated propolis.

This review aims provide comprehensive overview detection reported PAEs since 2010, focusing on combined various separation-based analytical techniques, such as gas chromatography (GC) liquid (LC) different detectors. Furthermore, advantages, disadvantages, limitations these well prospective future developments also discussed.
