Abstract This study investigated the antimicrobial efficacies of fabrics (100% cotton and 100% silk) dyed with an ethanol extract Gardenia jasminoides ( G. ). More specifically, these were using a dye bath ratio 1:20 at 40–60 °C for 60 min, followed by post-mordanting. The concentrations aluminum sulfate, copper ferrous sulfate mordants each set to 3% (o.w.f.). samples mordanted mordant 1:30 40 20 min. iron slightly increased uptake (K/S) fabric but did not increase silk fabric. against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ATCC 33591 determined be 99.8 87.8% fabrics, respectively. inhibitory effects MRSA 30.5 × 167.3 inoculum size, respectively, indicating superior effect These results suggest that may possess antibacterial activity antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

Plant dyes are eco-friendly and healthful, while most of them have poor color fastness, especially light fastness. A novel yellow plant dye was extracted from Koelreuteria paniculata leaves assessed for fastness to compared with three typical dyes, Sophora japonica , gardenia, turmeric. The first method used traditional boiling distilled water obtain solutions which were treated on woven cotton fabric silk under conditions alum mordant without mordant. dyed fabrics tested evaluated. demonstrate excellent wash performance ratings 4–5 or 4. K/S reduction values K. all the lowest after exposure oxidative bleaching. second ethanol subjected catalyst. absorbance four before lighting degradation rates calculated. leaf solution has rate. Results showed that stability consistent. highest is also superior others. This indicates may a significant impact fabrics. Because its promising application prospects.
