Gene editing contributes to enhancing food security through the creation of novel foods. However, public perception gene-edited (GE) foods is crucial their acceptance and adoption. This study expanded knowledge–attitude–practice model constructed an integrated framework comprising four dimensions: demographic factors, scientific literacy beliefs, social trust, perceptions gene technology, aimed at explaining public’s attitudes toward GE A questionnaire survey was conducted (N = 649), revealing a positive attitude foods, with over 80% expressing certain willingness pay (WTP) for them. Factors such as income level, subjective knowledge, trust in scientists, government, national technological capabilities perceived benefits positively correlated WTP. Conversely, objective risks, ethical concerns were negatively The impact knowledge on demonstrated significant, nonlinear relationship. Additionally, it noteworthy that Chinese currently exhibits relatively low capabilities, necessitating vigilance against emergence conspiracy theories akin those surrounding genetically modified research theoretical insights into communication

Anthocyanins are a large group of water-soluble flavonoid pigments. These specialized metabolites ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and play an essential role not only reproduction dispersal but also responses to biotic abiotic stresses. recognized as important health-promoting chronic-disease-preventing components human diet. Therefore, interest developing food crops with improved levels compositions these nutraceuticals is growing. This review focuses on work conducted elucidate genetic control anthocyanin pathway modulate content eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) tomato lycopersicum L.), two solanaceous fruit vegetables worldwide relevance. While have always been quality trait, anthocyanin-based, purple-fruited cultivars currently novelty. As detailed this review, difference cultivated germplasm has largely influenced studies well breeding transgenic approaches improve content/profile crops. The agricultural sector could benefit from biotechnologies in addressing challenges such as pests, droughts, and food supply issues. Genetically modified (GM) crops have been developed to offer not only economic advantages farmers but also contribute positively the environment, human health, consumer well-being. However, consumers' hesitancy buying GM may stem societal reactions how agriculture regulated so far. legislative debate that led, early 2024, approval of Commission's proposal (COM(2023) 411 final) – aimed at simplifying authorization process for plants obtained with certain new genomic techniques (NGTs) has sparkled public discussion European Union on application agriculture. This work aims investigate Italian acceptance toward food. Through data collected an original survey (N = 564), we tested a) their level knowledge techniques; b) if they are aware differences between established based classical approaches crossing selection more precise biotechnological c) propensity buy food, a specific focus safety environmental sustainability By using Multinomial Logit Model (MNL), starting three hypotheses, study highlights gap transfer and, general, communication process. results widespread misinformation hinders informed choices. emphasizes sensitivity safety, including issues, still related

ABSTRACT Witches’ broom disease (WBD) is a major constraint for cacao production in the Americas. The severe socioeconomic impact of WBD encouraged evaluation different control strategies, including use strobilurin fungicides. These molecules inhibit mitochondrial respiration, thus impairing ATP generation and leading to oxidative stress. chemicals, however, have proven ineffective against pathogen Moniliophthora perniciosa . Here, we demonstrate that M. tolerates high concentrations strobilurins under vitro conditions highlight set molecular alterations correlate with tolerance this fungus. Short-term exposure commercial azoxystrobin led up-regulation genes encoding enzymes glyoxylate cycle, gluconeogenesis, fatty acid amino catabolism, indicating fungal metabolism remodeled compensate reduced production. Furthermore, cell division, ribosome biogenesis, sterol were repressed, which agrees impaired mycelial growth on azoxystrobin. Genes associated cellular detoxification response stress (e.g., cytochrome P450s, membrane transporters glutathione s-transferases) strongly induced by drug represent potential strategies used mitigate toxic effects fungicide. Remarkably, resulted spontaneous mutant increased resistance strobilurin. Comparative genomics transcriptomics revealed may explain phenotype, large deletion putative transcriptional regulator significant changes transcriptome. Overall, work provides important advances towards comprehensive understanding basis tropical pathogen. This fundamental step efficiently employ these fungicides agriculture prevent emergence resistance.

Background/Objectives: This study investigates consumer perceptions and acceptance of ionizing radiation (IoR) as a perishable food stabilisation technology. Consumers’ preferences influence the success emerging technologies. Therefore, comprehensive understanding consumers’ behavioural responses their development over time is essential. Methods: research employs mixed-methods approach, surveying 313 young adults in New Zealand on views both irradiated genetically modified (GM) highly foods. explored participants’ attitudes towards these two technologies also willingness to consume Results: The qualitative revealed preponderance “affective” associations “cognitive” with regard IoR GM quantitative indicated that where consumers were given reflect, evaluations improved, while those did not (p < 0.01). There was gender divide, females being more positively inclined males Both significantly disfavoured compared non-treated products significant discrimination when presented concepts products. favourably received concept than product 0.01), either form. neophobia scales tested showed divergence performance, affectively based scale showing higher level correlation behaviour. Conclusions: reveals largely affective (visceral) distrust exists within this sample. As it nature, position will be very resistant education efforts, particularly if they are “cognitively” based. However, softening indicates such efforts may effective, investment.
