Abstract The European spruce bark beetle, Ips typographus (L.), is the most important forest pest in Europe due to profound impacts of periodic outbreaks on ecosystem goods and services. Herein, we evaluated responses I . different doses verbenone (SPLAT ® Verb, 10% (−)‐verbenone by weight; ISCA Inc., Riverside, CA, USA) traps baited with its aggregation pheromones. Results are based 1,492,289 collected five experiments over 3 years. SPLAT Verb inhibited response I. out 14 m from point release (dollop) for >80 days at a dose 75 g per dollop. Reductions trap catch ranged 34% 93% depending verbenone, age dollops, distance dollops environment. In stands, significant reductions were observed distances up release, largest 0 (93%) 2 (64%). an open area, only reduction (66%). much lower active inhibitory range area appears be explained less stable accumulations surrounding air. There was negative correlation between amount measured air vicinity traps.
