Formulating climate change adaptation strategies based on local perceptions and behaviors, especially in mountainous areas, is challenging for managers. This study aims to identify the risk perception, avoidance adjustment of residents different mountain villages within same township. A census was conducted through questionnaire-based onsite surveys, collecting 302 responses from four Shuilixi township Nantou County. The results indicate that Han people perform significantly better than indigenous behavior due socio-economic conditions. Significant differences emerge among groups: high-risk low-risk areas. Residents regardless ethnicity, outperform those areas behavior, strategies. Respondents backgrounds (gender, age, income, occupation) also fare these aspects. Notably, exhibit lower actual their perceived possibly limitations occupation, education, or available space. highlights significant ethnic distribution geographical features small-scale upper Shuili stream area. It suggests future research should compare towns locations a broader understanding population characteristics disaster prevention planning be considered village-by-village basis.
