Increasingly, adaptive processes and decentralization are vital aspects of watershed governance. Equitable sustainable water governance requires an understanding that different societal members have unique relationships with the environment varying levels interaction policymakers. However, factors facilitating public involvement under centralized remain less understood. This study combined Institutional Analysis Development framework ordered probit regression to empirically investigate determinants willingness participate (WTP) actual participation in integrated management (IWM). Data from 933 valid questionnaires collected across 36 counties Fujian, China, were used define stakeholders’ perceptions IWM. Results show stakeholders predominantly willing conservation, management, or planning (85.9%), while only 32.8% frequently attend related events. Pro-environmental intentions mainly shaped by interactional capacity—information exposure, interpersonal exchanges, cross-reach support recognition—while was influenced perceived biophysical conditions, rules-in-use, socioeconomic factors, capacity. Frequent observations poor forest practices correlated higher behavioral intentions, dynamics significantly affected self-reported participation. Information sharing had most substantial positive impact on both WTP These findings reinforce necessity for holistic approach regional resource fosters inclusivity sustainability. provides workable insights into social institutional shape as it evolves toward decentralization.

How to coordinate the relationship between nature reserves and surrounding communities achieve a win–win situation for protection development has become an urgent issue that governments around world need address. The concept of community co-management emerged in this context, aiming promote cooperation interaction protected areas communities, sustainable use natural resources, healthy economy. This study conducted empirical analysis using Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve China as case study. aims reveal key factors affecting perception households national reserve through in-depth their perceptions, attitudes, actual effects on innovative management model co-management. At same time, it provides evidence theoretical support construction more reasonable, efficient, model. Based field research interviews, combined with questionnaire survey stakeholders, utilized Q method conduct comprehensive household perceptions under results indicate is effective path coordinated local economy, society, ecology. Specifically, not only significantly promotes employment entrepreneurship among residents but also achieves economic self-sufficiency steady growth by cultivating characteristic industries building distinctive brands.
