Colorectal cancer is a prevalent malignant tumor with complex and diverse pathogenesis. In recent years, natural products have shown promising application prospects as sources of anticancer drugs. BBR, class benzoquinoline alkaloids extracted from various plants, widely used in disease treatments owing to its pharmacological activities, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-angiogenesis properties. Research has demonstrated that BBR exerts an anti-Salmonella -Escherichia coli infection effect, attenuating inflammatory reactions by inhibiting harmful bacteria. During the stage colorectal precancerous lesions, inhibits activity cell cyclin regulating PI3K/AKT, MAPK, Wnt signaling pathways, thereby decelerating cycle progression polyp or adenoma cells. Moreover, inhibitory effect on primarily occurs through regulation cycle, anti-angiogenesis, gut microbiota, antioxidant pathways. The specific involved pathways include MPK/ERK, NF-kB, EGFR encompassing Bcl-2 family proteins, vascular endothelial growth factor, superoxide dismutase. This study reviews summarizes, for first time, mechanisms action carcinogenesis process cancer, providing novel insights clinical intestinal diseases.

Copper is used to treat algal blooms, macrophyte infestations and other environmental issues, but its rising ambient levels harm aquatic animals, especially their intestines. However, impact on turtles' digestive health not well understood, the risks are unclear. This study investigates effects of copper intestinal Chinese stripe-necked turtle, focusing histomorphology, mucosal barrier function, gene expression, gut microbiota. stress caused damage, characterized by shortened villi, inflammatory cell infiltration, reduced epithelial layer thickness, as decreased acidic mucins, increased villi edema inflammation. The mRNA expression level bacteriostatic enzymes significantly reduced. Furthermore, found that exposure increases permeability suppressing tight junction genes triggers an response in gut, indicated elevated cytokines. At phylum level, Firmicutes exhibited a significant decrease, whereas Bacteroidota displayed notable increase, Fusobacteriota showed substantial reduction relative abundance copper-treated groups. Similarly, at genus Romboutsia, Cetobacterium decreased, while Turicibacter Sarcina groups compared control. indicating unique properties including essentiality, reactivity, accumulation enables it profoundly bacteria, altering both composition function. Copper's dual role nutrient toxicant uniquely impacts microbes. Our findings suggest compromises physical, immune, chemical, microbial M. sinensis, all which contribute turtle's poor health.

Mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis (UC) management is centred on 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) derivatives. Whether supplementing 5-ASA with nutraceuticals can provide real advantages in UC-relevant outcomes unclear. This retrospective multicentre study compared clinical remission, response rates, and faecal calprotectin levels a two-arm design, including patients treated alone those additional H. erinaceus-based multi-compound supplementation. In the group, rates were 41% at three months (T1) 60.2% six (T2), while corresponding remission 16.9% 36.1%. nutraceutical supplementation 49.6% 70.4% of 30.4% 50.9% (T2). No significant differences between groups T1 (p = 0.231) T2 0.143) emerged. Clinical differed significantly both time points 0.029 p 0.042, respectively). Faecal decreased during follow-up < 0.05), this was more pronounced 0.005) 0.01). adverse events reported. multi-component offers real-world potential controlling disease activity mild-to-moderate UC.

This experiment aimed to investigate the protective effects of berberine on copper-induced liver and gill toxicities in freshwater grouper (Acrossocheilus fasciatus). Fish (initial weight 1.56 ± 0.10 g) were randomly distributed into 12 tanks (80 L, 20 fish per tank) divided four experimental groups: The control group, exposed 0.02 mg/L Cu2+ (Cu group), fed 100 mg/kg (BBR100 400 (BBR400 group). After a 30-day experiment, results showed that significantly increased activities catalase glutathione peroxidase liver, gills, serum inhibited by exposure (P < 0.05). Berberine inclusion decreased lysozyme acid phosphatase, as well content immunoglobulin M compared Cu group suppressed expression proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β, interleukin-6 signaling transducer, NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 gills induced while downregulating anti-inflammatory cytokine transforming growth factor β1. Additionally, reduced injury markers alanine transaminase aspartate transaminase, levels total cholesterol triglyceride serum, alleviated histopathological damage caused exposure. In summary, enhanced antioxidant capacity, mitigated inflammation, exerted significant under

Background: Berberine has extremely low oral bioavailability, but shows a potent lipid-lowering effect, indicating its potential role in regulating intestinal microbiota, which not been investigated. Methods: In the present study, five experimental diets, control diet (Con), high-lipid (HL), and high-lipid·diets·supplemented with an antibiotic cocktail (HLA), berberine (HLB), or both (HLAB) were fed to zebrafish (Danio rerio) for 30 days. Results: The HLB group showed significantly greater weight gain feed intake than HLA other groups, respectively (p < 0.05). Hepatic triglyceride (TG) total cholesterol (TC) levels, lipogenesis, proinflammatory cytokine gene expression upregulated by diet, downregulated supplementation. Conversely, levels of and/or hepatic farnesoid X receptor (fxr), Takeda G protein-coupled 5 (tgr5), lipolysis genes, zonula occludens 1 (zo1) exhibited opposite trend. Compared group, HLAB displayed TG content expression, lower bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity fxr tgr5 levels. HL treatment decreased abundance certain probiotic bacteria (e.g., Microbacterium, Cetobacterium, Gemmobacter) increased pathways involved cytochrome P450, p53 signaling, ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. some abundance, particularly BSH-producing Escherichia Shigella). Bifidobacterium Enterococcus) related Notch signaling Wnt reduced group. Conclusions: This study revealed that berberine's intestine-protective effects are closely especially bacteria.
