In
this
study,
microwave
assisted
ammonia
decomposition
reaction
to
produce
high
purity
hydrogen
over
g-Al2O3supported
molybdenum
based
catalysts
were
investigated
and
the
effects
of
various
promoters,
rare-earth
(lanthanum,
cerium)
alkaline-earth
(calcium
barium)
elements
on
catalytic
activity
studied.
Ammonia
conversions
94%
obtained
unpromoted
above
350oC
at
a
flow
rate
60
ml/min
pure
ammonia.
The
overall
production
per
gram
catalyst
was
found
be
72.86
mmol/min.gcat
with
for
30
wt.%
Mo
loaded
350oC.
apparent
activation
energy
(Ea)
values
these
around
85
kJ/mol.
Among
Ba
Ce
gave
better
performance
below
than
Ca
La
optimum
loading
4
them.
Neither
nitride
nor
carbide
detected
in
spent
form
catalysts.
