Abstract
Providing
the
world’s
population
with
sufficient
and
nutritious
food
through
sustainable
systems
is
a
major
challenge
of
twenty-first
century.
Fertilizer
use
driver
crop
yield,
but
comprehensive
synthesis
effect
fertilizer
on
nutritional
quality
crops
lacking.
Here
we
performed
global
meta-analysis
using
7859
data
pairs
from
551
field
experiment-based
articles
published
between
1972
2022,
assessing
contribution
fertilization
wide
set
plant
nutrients
to
(i.e.,
fruits,
vegetables,
cereals,
pulses/oil
crops,
sugar
crops).
On
average,
application
improved
yield
by
30.9%
(CI:
28.2–33.7%)
(referring
all
nutritionally
relevant
components
assessed;
carbohydrates,
proteins,
oil,
vitamin
C,
representative
mineral
nutrients,
total
soluble
solids)
11.9%
10.7–12.1%).
The
improvements
were
largely
nutrient-
species
dependent,
vegetables

most
responsive.
Potassium,
magnesium,
micronutrients

quality,

Nanomaterials
(NMs),
particularly
ZnO
nanoparticles
(NPs),

sustainable
agriculture
for
enhancing
crop
production,

NMs

optimize
performance
is

bottleneck.

synthesized
three
types
(NPs)
(nZnO-1,
nZnO-2,
nZnO-3)
with
different
particle
size,
charge,
dissolution
properties
were
foliar-applied
wheat
under
field
conditions.
Foliar
application
nZnO-3
significantly
increased
grain
by
15.2%
biological
yield
9.5%
compared
that
the
unamended
control.
Both
nZnO-2
improved
Zn
content
whole
(21.0
15.6%,
respectively)
starchy
endosperm
(31.8
13.1%,
respectively),
enhanced
bioavailability
(40.9
43.3%,
estimated
daily
intake
(EDI)

respectively).

Cd
concentration
