Amid deepening socioecological concerns, the future geography of food promises to become more contested in next few decades. This special issue, which is an offshoot American Geographical Society's symposium on Future Food, brings together a rich blend articles that interrogate diverse aspects food, including questions promise high-tech modes production, alternative sources for future, and smallholder agriculture. In this introduction, we synthesize these debates across highlight what at stake food. While may not be able accurately predict will eat years ahead, change tremendously foodways shaped by ongoing ontological politics contestations over constitutes "clean" "healthy" how produce it. Globalization shape place-based practices, yet retain its cultural meaning even as traditional are culinary practices products from distant geographies. Similarly, small agriculture resilient continue foreground security many world, particularly Global South.

A significant weight on the environment is created by agricultural processes starting from exploitation of soil and production to physical distribution goods, retailers' operations consumption. Agriculture particularly agri-food imperative contribute solving such global challenges as climate change food security through cleaner greener supply chains, where implementation smart technologies one major ways create an impact. Agri-food global value chains (GVCs) are failing to provide healthy and affordable diets within planetary boundaries. Many cutting-edge technologies being developed address the sustainability challenges throughout agri-food GVCs. While several studies seek analyze impacts of specific innovations on socioeconomic environmental dimensions, relationship between industry structure process technological change has not received much attention in chain literature. Here, we focus entrepreneurial landscape innovation GVCs 1) identify which have been receiving most support from investors 2) corporate strategies largest multinational companies regarding their investments new technologies. Using Crunchbase as our primary data source machine learning for natural language processing, identified around 15,500 developing linked GVCs, farming last-mile delivery. Abstract One largely neglected focus in the analysis of mission-oriented innovation policies is mission cocreation between stakeholder groups advocating different solution directions. In this paper, we introduce management concept ambidexterity to study how arenas influenced by actors aiming continue existing pathways (exploitative innovation) and alternative (explorative innovation). Our case on Dutch circular agriculture highlights an initial top-down strategy development was dominated exploitative forces, despite ambitions secure broad participation. Government-led efforts still engage exploration-minded actors, restore ambidexterity, were hampered potential contributors feeling excluded from policy process. These findings underline risk that openness missions, required for involvement, might also reinforce pre-existing contestation pathways. Overall, our demonstrate a trade-off maximizing efficiency speed versus obtaining novel perspectives wide societal legitimacy.

The fourth agricultural revolution (or Agriculture 4.0) promises to lead the way an sector that is smarter, more efficient, and environmentally socially responsible. Digital data generating tools are seen as critical enablers for this transformation expected make farming planned, predictive, productive, efficient. To vision a reality, producers will first adopt use technologies, but easier said than done. Barriers such limited digital infrastructure, low (digital) literacy, incomes, socio-cultural norms major factors causing sub-optimal access of technologies among smallholder farmers. Abstract In response to the need for exploring transformative innovation policy (TIP) implementation dynamics across sectors and contexts, this paper examines emergence of TIP in Chilean agri-food sector. Our findings indicate that has been developing recent years, primarily high-level discourses, while efforts coordination concrete instrument mixes lag behind. Contextual factors strongly influence development, which include (1) organization public administration, (2) national political dynamics, (3) cultures, (4) geographical contexts. Importantly, our work emphasizes capabilities underscores significant role proto-institutions supporting through system coordination, science-policy advice, fostering cross-sectoral collaboration, multiactor engagement, learning experimentation. Better considering contexts as starting point could advance its contribute a broader understanding dynamics.

The impact of food processing on drug absorption, metabolism, and subsequent pharmacological activity is a pressing yet insufficiently explored area research. Overlooking food-processing-drug interactions can significantly disrupt optimal clinical patient management. challenges extend beyond merely considering the type timing ingestion as to uptake; specific methods applied play pivotal role. This study delves into both selected thermal non-thermal techniques, investigating their potential interference with established pharmacokinetics medications. Within realm processing, conventional like deep fat frying, grilling, or barbecuing not only reduce enteric absorption drugs but also may give rise side-products such acrylamide, aldehydes, oxysterols, oxyphytosterols.
