With the recent launch of Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework (GBF), and associated monitoring framework, understanding data needed to support it is crucial. Unfortunately, whilst was meant provide key monitor progress towards goals targets, most indicators are too unclear for detection or marking progress. The common datasets this task, such as IUCN redlist species, have major spatial inaccuracies, lack temporal resolution track progress, point-based from many regions, in addition species coverage. Utilising existing will require careful use data, inventories projecting richness patterns, filling gaps before developing species-level models assessments. As high-resolution fall outside scope explicit within using essential variables GEOBON (which noted prelude framework) a vehicle aggregation provides mechanism collating necessary data. Ultimately effective targets conservation better which National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plans (NBSAPs) novel mechanisms mobilisation be necessary. Furthermore, capitalising on climate synergies GBF an additional means meaningful trying develop urgently trends, prioritising tasks, tracking our targets.

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) marks one of the most ambitious environmental agreements 21st century. Yet despite ambition, and considerable change in approach since negotiating its predecessor (the 2025 Vision Aichi targets), many pressures, including working through a global pandemic mean that final agreement, several years delay, is weaker than might have been hoped for. GBF provides set four goals, composed 23 targets (and series supporting annexes) which explore options for conservation, restoration sustainable use biodiversity, mobilisation necessary resources to maintain life on Earth. In this perspective we systematically examine composition GBF, exploring what lack weaknesses exist text. We also detail link between key indicators can be used track success toward fulfilling targets. offer recommendations could help strengthen application various targets, show where improved provide more detailed information monitor progress. Furthermore, discuss association their indicators, may temporal resolution or other elements. Finally, how actors better prepare successor 2030 has learnt about process, lessons ensure future circumnavigate issues weakened agreement.

Our knowledge of biodiversity hinges on sufficient data, reliable methods, and realistic models. Without an accurate assessment species distributions, we cannot effectively target stem loss. Species range maps are the foundation such efforts, but countless studies have failed to account for most basic assumptions mapping practices, undermining credibility their results potentially misleading hindering conservation management efforts. Here, use examples from recent literature broader community highlight substantial shortfalls in current practices consequences both analyses management. We detail how different decisions data filtering impact outcomes analysis provide practical recommendations steps more analysis, whilst understanding limits what available will reliably allow methods appropriate. Whilst perfect not possible many taxa given limited biases, ensuring within reasonable inherent is crucial ensure appropriate use. By embracing enacting best can accuracy improved comparability going forward, ultimately enhancing our ability facilitate protection natural world.

Introduction Landscape changes resulting from urbanization have profound impacts on biodiversity, threatening the habitat of resident species. Birds are valuable research subjects because their diversity, wide distribution, and particular sensitivity to environmental changes. Therefore, exploring relationships between winter birds variables is essential for designing managing green spaces during winter. However, responses bird communities in cold regions remain unclear. Methods In this study, we investigated community riparian zone Hun River Shenyang.
