Global urbanization, population growth, and climate change have considerably impacted water resources, making sustainable resource management (WRM) essential. Understanding the changes in hydrological components is important for effective WRM, particularly cities such as Higashi-Hiroshima, which known its saké brewing industry. This study used Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) with Hydrological Response Units (HRUs) to achieve high spatial precision assessing impacts of land use variability on a suburban catchment western Japan. Over 30-year period (1980s–2000s), was main driver variability, whereas played minor role. Increased surface runoff, along decrease groundwater recharge, evapotranspiration, baseflow, resulted an overall reduction yield, 34.9% recharge attributed transformation paddy fields into residential areas. Sustainable WRM practices, including conservation, zone protection, green infrastructure, are recommended balance urban development sustainability. These findings offer valuable insights strategies managing resources rapidly urbanizing regions worldwide, emphasizing need integrated system that considers both impacts.

Groundwater, an invaluable resource crucial for irrigation and drinking purposes, significantly impacts human health societal advancement. This study aims to evaluate the groundwater quality in Mnasra region of Gharb Plain, employing a comprehensive analysis thirty samples collected from various locations, based on thirty-three physicochemical parameters. Utilizing tools like Pollution Index Groundwater (PIG), Nitrate (NPI), Water Quality (WQI), Irrigation (IWQI), as well Multivariate Statistical Approaches (MSA), Geographic Information System (GIS), this research identifies sources pollution. The results revealed Ca2+ dominance among cations Cl− primary anion. Piper Gibbs diagrams illustrated prevalent Ca2+-Cl− water type significance water–rock interactions, respectively. PIG values indicated that 86.66% exhibited “Insignificant pollution”. NPI showed notable nitrate pollution (1.48 7.06), with 83.33% rated “Good” WQI. IWQI 80% were classified “Excellent” 16.66% “Good”. Spatial identified eastern southern sections highly contaminated due agricultural activities. These findings provide valuable insights decision-makers manage resources promote sustainable management region.

The sustainable management of water resources is essential for agricultural productivity, especially in areas with scarce availability. This study focused on assessing groundwater quality irrigation near the subsurface dam area Miyako Island, Japan. Water samples from three observation points were tested various parameters, including electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), soluble percentage (SSP), residual bicarbonate (RSBC), permeability index (PI), Kelley's (KR), and magnesium (MAR). EC values ranged 270 to 800 µS/cm, suggesting ranging doubtful good. SAR between 0.23 1.49 suggested excellent quality. SSP 7.90% 31.71%, mostly indicating good RSBC fluctuated -1.57 1.45 epm, largely within safe limits. PI varied 40.34 75.83, permeability. Total hardness (TH) 105.50 326.45 ppm, classifying as hard very hard. MAR below 50, potential soil issues. A numerical model confirmed observed Ca²⁺ concentrations, showing an increasing trend due enhanced CO₂ emissions lower pH. data analysis revealed strong positive relationships KR (r = 0.984), 0.951), 0.960). Despite generally acceptable values, continuous monitoring recommended, hardness, ensure crop production. underscores need regular assessment mitigate adverse effects productivity.

Abstract This study addresses the pressing need for assessing groundwater potential in diverse regions worldwide, emphasizing challenges posed by industrialization and urban expansion. Leveraging remote sensing (RS) data within an ArcGIS framework, a comparison was conducted on effectiveness of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Fuzzy Overlay Analysis (FOA) models delineating zones. Ten influencing factors underwent rigorous multicollinearity checks to ensure independent analysis. Both methodologies categorized output into five classification zones, revealing variations between methods. The sensitivity analysis identified specific influential layers each method, showcasing heightened Notably, AHP emphasized such as NDWI, Lineament density, Land Use Cover (LULC), while FOA prioritized Soil Texture, Density, NDWI. Evaluating reliability assessments, demonstrated fair agreement (59.18%), exhibited substantial (77.5%). emerged superior, offering more nuanced precise representation spatial relationships uncertainties. promising performance our suggests its applicability accurate assessment beyond area (India) other countries with heterogeneous hydrogeological conditions.
